SO Members Mock Draft Disscussion Thread

As for the Max Unger pick, I still think that Alex Mack is a better selection and both guys can play across the line. I think that DE is something that they need to look at to get younger and O line obviously is the same issue.

Philly - LeSean McCoy was a nice pick, but Im just not sold on reaching for RBs. I think that you could get a great back in round two and Im much more sold on Shonn Greene than I am McCoy. Not to mention you just drafted the kid that played in the rivalry city! LOL. I think you could've taken Eben Britton and gotten true value at OT.

New York - That being said, Eben Britton has been flying up draft charts and would not last past the very first picks in the second round. The Giants need to get better at the tackle positions and other needs can be filled later in the draft. Britton is a steal here in my opinion.

Tennessee - Love the Laurinitis pick, especially with a defensive minded coach in Fisher. The addition of Jovan Haye will help to offset the loss of Haynesworth, so adding a younger, smart LB will help to ease the transition. And as much as I hate OSU, Laurinitis is full of character and blue collar work ethic.

Arizona - I dont like this pick at all. I know that Donald Brown is a gem, but to reach for a RB this early in the draft I think is a mistake. You'd still have solid picks in later rounds to find a good RB, but I would think WR or DE would be a need with Boldin possibly being gone and Bertrand Berry testing FA (I believe?). Much better players available without the reach.

Pittsburgh - In my opinion they should definitely take Alex Mack. All the pundits were raving about how poor the O line was, and now they have the majority of them coming back off of a Super Bowl win. What better way to get lined up to replace those older players.

mm yep. Kind of acknowledged that right above you.

My feeling is the running back class falls off a cliff after Brown, comparative to the other positions. It's easily an Addai-esque reach for similar reasons in a similar rb draft class. And we're the friggin Cards, man, so you have to expect us to do the wrong thing!

Mayock has him in his top 20, so we got that going for us which is nice

Do you watch Philly games? I love Greene at rb. But not for Philly. Like it or not folks, with Andy Reid in Philly, they will NEVER be an up the gut type running team. Greene is an incredible back...but a lousy receiver. Remember...I am looking for a replacement for Westbrook. McCoy is custom built for that.

How do long does every one get on their picks? I know I took a little while on mine, but I want to make sure that I dont miss the second round selections....

Gotcha....If pittsburgh isnt going to make their selection within the limit, I think we should give them Alex Mack, C, California. Just in case.

I agree with you. When the timer runs out Miller, Sgt or myself fill it out. Whichever one of us makes it to the thread first pretty much.

Wes has about 2 1/2 hours left.

Sorry guys, I hate being "that guy" that takes the entire window but my router decided to reset itself while I was running errands yesterday so I had to make an impromptu visit to see the Geek Squad.
With that said, if the real draft pans out like this, I will be extremely happy because of my unhealthy man-crush on Alex Mack. If Mack is off the board and Unger is available, he'll be welcomed with open arms as well. 3 Pac-10 O-lineman in the first round? Not bad for a conference that's been taking a whipping in the media the past few years.

Great pick WesDawg, I don't think any of us can disagree with that.

Round 1 is complete, and round 2 has already begun. Darius Butler is the 33rd pick by FireMillen via PM.

notables not drafted in round 1 that i've seen in round 1 mocks:

DE Tyson Jackson, LSU
DE Michael Johnson, GT
LB Brian Cushing, USC
LB Larry English, N. Ill
S Louis Delmas, W. Mich
QB Josh Freeman, Kan St.

Most surprising in that list to me would be Tyson Jackson. I consistently see him drafted in mocks between picks 12-20. I see Cushing going to the Patriots in many mocks, as well.

Jackson is definitely gonna be a top pick in this round, but Cushing is sliding because there are alot of reports swirling that he has been using steroids.

Pittsburgh - Kind of hard to disagree with the pick when I made the suggestion that Alex Mack be taken. Comes in and adds a youthful dimension to a line that will need to get younger over the next two years.

Detroit - Actually, given the players taken over him, I cant argue with the Butler pick. I think its too high, but you were only left with the selection of Sean Smith from Utah, DJ Moore from Vandy, or Butler from UConn. Smith looks like he might project to nickel back and FS more than a true corner and at 6-3, could fit the bill. DJ Moore has the extra ability of return specialist, and that is why I would have taken Moore, but Butler has return skills as well. My personal opinion is that Moore is the better prospect, but I think you picked the right position here.

I'll be happy with Mack or Unger at that point in the draft. I'm also keeping an eye on Will Beatty, a Tackle from UConn. I consistently see him carrying 1st round grades as well, and he obviously played a role in Donald Brown becoming a star RB.

if i am new england, im taking dj moore right now. they must put a cb to tandem with ellis hobbs and the talent gap drops off rather significantly from here

I took Sean Smith because NE needs a young safety with cover skills. It doesn't help he's extensively played corner, which means he can cheat up and play man against the likes of Greg Camarillo and Davone Bess.
