Kevin Walter Injury

I haven't heard anything but what they said last night which is a tweak hammy so I'm thinking no news is good news.

Hammies can be a royal pain in the asp. I was looking to draft him tonight but will let him slide due to this.

Well lets hope so. I drafted him as well in one of my leagues and is my WR3. Hamstrings can be a pain but I'm hoping the fact that there are no updates that thats a good thing. Fingers crossed.

Houston Chronicle reports that Kevin Walter as well as Matt Schaub is day to day for week 1. Still no real huge talk about Walter's injury.

Any update on this injury??

Most teams timetable during the season have them not practicing until Wednesday, so you won't hear much on injuries early in the week unless it is something major. late Wednesday night we might hear something new on Walter. Generally anybody with an injury doesn't practice on Wed. Miss Thurs, it time to get nervous. Missing Friday's practice is important because we usually find out if they are out or a Game Day decision.

Walter (hamstring) jogged on Tuesday, but is still listed as day-to-day, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Kevin Walter did not participate in practice on Wed. That is the "oh shit" news I didn't want to hear. I might have to look at the waiver wire as Sidney Rice and Josh Morgan are my only other 2 wr on my team and I am not confident in them right now

Ok, here we go.

Houston Texans WR Kevin Walter (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 10.

While missing both Wednesday and Thursday practice is not unusual it is now time to raise your attennas and start thinking of alternatives, like Trickster and wisfinfan05 are preparing to do. That said, missing both practices is not the end of the world either. Hammys are a rest em is good type of injury. You spend your time having the trainers carefully stretch you, do some bicycle work and whirlpool duty. This is all designed to help you heal and keep you flexible and work the hammy with out straining it further. Now most coaches have as a general rule that you must practice Friday to play Sunday. Now this is more of a principle than a rule as a lot of players still end up out on the field come Sunday. But Friday practice or non-practice usually provides more intel as you will generally find out if a player is out or a Game-Time Decision. Like I said many players who don't practice Friday do end up playing on Sunday. The rule/principle has many variations, such as how important a cog the players is too the team and the nature of the injury. Brian Westbrook had knee problems last year and was a GTD often. His knee would swell up if he practiced and swelling like that takes several days to go down. So he didn't practice all week long and come Sunday they would check the knee out and if it looked ok then tape him up and give him a shot and let him play.

Walter has started jogging which is a step above riding the Bicycle as the bike riding is to keep you flexible and yet support your weight so you are not running on it. A lot of sites will point out that he is Jogging and not cutting which is true. But you don't want him to be cutting on a Wednesday or Thursday as every day of healing is quite frankly a day of healing and hammys are a rest is the best type of injury. Hammys also range wildly in degree. You have a went down like he was shot while on the field Hammy. This is usually followed by an MRI and a report on the severity of the hammy and a prognosis of missing weeks. Then you have a pull up short type of hammy and walk back to the sideline with a gimp. This is like Walters hammy. No MRI and put on a rest is best routine for as long as possible with a day to day tag. A general hammy is hard to come back from in the next week and is more of a concern during the season. But being a pre-season injury there was the luxury of an extra weeks rest.

I could go on and on but this is some basic observations that comes from years of watching injury reports for my fellow FF owners.

Wow, man nice work. So would you think about Ginn.

PS. I am going to bump this thread again tommorw. And probably one more time Sunday Morning before the games start.

You can put Ginn for now if it makes you feel more comfortable. Your league software should allow you to make changes right up to Sunday kickoff. But if you have never tried it before go ahead and put Ginn in now. He is a nice option to have.

You are right, tomorrow is a big key to the intel puzzle and I will be here to bring the latest.

While I haven't heard about Fridays practice yet, what I have heard says he probably won't practice Friday. Walter is working closely with the head trainer and sounds close to being playable. But, from what I am reading he is likely not to practice Friday and be evaluated just before gametime during warmups. The coach says that Walter knows the system well enough to play well despite missing practice. The trainer says he will know if Walter is well enough to go, without the risk of re-injury, during the pre-game warmups.
So this is a true Game Time Decision. So, unless you can be around the TV and the computer to make that change 15 minutes before (1pm) kickoff you might be better off using an alternate WR or you are gambling.

Who are your other WR options wisfinfan? As of right now, I have Josh Morgan starting. I know it is a bit of a stretch but he has the possibility to post numbers. My other option is Sidney Rice but I feel more comfortable with Josh Morgan. I don't want to hit the WW quite yet because both of these WRs could be big so I don't want to make the mistake to drop them too early. I would rather risk getting no production and starting one of them then dropping them, having someone else pick them up, and then the wr has a career year.

According to beat writer Matt Barrows, the 49ers are counting on Josh Morgan to be the team's "most dangerous offensive weapon."

The Vikings released Bobby Wade, solidifying Rice's spot in the starting lineup, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Analysis: Rice has looked healthy in working his way back from a sprained PCL from last season, but didn't get much action in the preseason. Percy Harvin likely gets the bigger boost in value from Wade's release as Rice's upside is more of a red zone threat.
