Tampa trades Gaines Adams to Chicago

Pretty much solidifies our spot at the bottom of the barrel this year. I guess I'll start working on my '10 draft board.
 
CBSSports.com reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE Stylez G. White is expected to replace DE Gaines Adams in the lineup.
 
I hope Adams is able to turn it up in Chicago. Best thing in the world that could happen to any player is to be sent out of Tampa.

The ship's going down, and Morris is leading it bravely back to the Bucco Bruce days . . .

Kind of fitting that they will be wearing those uniforms this season . . .

I fancy myself as a guy who knows his football, and when youve got a guy expected to contribute Ive never heard of (especially with that goofy name) you are headed for an entry to the Bradford sweepstakes.
 
So, how much further under the cap does this put the Bucs?

I swear, if the new CBA has a salary cap, it had better have a minimum as well. It's a shame that other teams have to share revenue with a team that is out there competing like this.

Adams was crap in Tampa. Quite literally, every day you wake up and turn on the radio people are begging for him to be benched and traded. We spent a 1st round pick on the guy and going into the Washington game he had only 1 sack, if I remember correctly. He was even worse last year. Personally, I don't want him on my team.

What this means is that Bucs truly are in a rebuilding year (we all knew it, I know, but the Bucs wont and haven't come out to say that). This move is to weed out the "bad eggs" and rack up as many draft picks in 2010 as we can.

Stylez has been on the roster all year long. In fact, he's out performed Gaines every time he's been in the game.

Playing to lose sends a bad message to the rest of the team. As far as I am concerned, the way this team is currently being ran is just as bad or maybe worse than how the Raiders are ran.

I'm still not sold though that this is being done for the sake of rebuilding. I think this is ownership simply cutting payroll in anticipation of the removal of a salary cap, and the removal of revenue sharing.

If there is no revenue sharing, I would expect this team to become a bottom dweller once again for a long time. Some owners simply don't want to invest back into their team enough to put a winner on the field.

I dunno. If the fans think he's garbage, and the coach has been calling him out, certainly the players also feel along those lines. I would call it addition by subtraction rather than playing to lose.

In regards to this individual situation, I can agree. But, this isn't just one situation. This is ownership that is refusing to put a competitive team on the field.

This is a team that went from playoff contender last year, to a bottom feeding team this year that is more than $32 Million UNDER the cap.

This is a team that is not only getting rid of players like Gains Adams, but also dumping long time players who could have contributed and were fan favorites.

They did not have to take this route. There was plenty cap room available for this team to retool and remain competitive. ownership chose to tear this team down in an era where you don't have to do so. You did this back in the 70's, 80's, and early 90's when your team got old. It's not like that anymore.

I may be wrong, but this looks to me like an owner that is preparing to field a team over the next several years (if salary caps and revenue sharing do go away), with as little investment as possible. Spend just enough money to make a big profit and not lose an entire fan base.
 
So after this deal and the Cutler deal...does Chicago have a draft pick in the first few rounds next year?

They dont have a 1st or 2nd next year.

Adams was a 4th overall pick and from what I've heard the past couple of days, has sucked. I can hope that he still has top shelf potential and that marinelli can get the best out of him. I think the Bucs took most of the cap hit by having to pay out all of his guarenteed money. I expect the Bears to let Ogunleye walk next year based on this move. For this year, they have great depth at DE with Ogun, Anderson, Alex brown and now Adams. I have been pushing for Ogin to be let go for a couple of years because he makes 6-7 mill and has under produced. So far this year, he has played at a pro bowl level.
