Slapping your woman will get you banned

So, does anyone with a past incident get labeled a past offender, or is this just moving forward?

Rice is the obvious case, but what about someone like Dez Bryant? Pretty sure he had a domestic situation (I could be wrong ) in the past, is he one more away from a lifetime ban from the NFL?
 
Dez slapped his momma. That's sure enough domestic. The NFL said that it could be applied retroactive and that they would move forward on a case by case situation. The Panthers have a player with a domestic case that was continued until later this fall. It apparently will be the first to fall under these new rules. Keep in mind that in the NFL lifetime means that only a year is guaranteed as a player can apply for reinstatement after one season unlike baseball where they mean lifetime when they use that term. Jim Brown is glad that he played yesteryear.
 
I think this is a stupid way of going about trying to make a point. I can see this as having the potential of creating a 'Pete Rose' type situation for the NFL where some clear HOF'er is forever denied inductance because of a domestic abuse charge.

Say for instance (and I realize this is the slippery slope) someone like Andrew Luck gets a domestic charge now and then plays 12 more yrs in the league and gets another in his last year. Over the course of his 15 yr career he has performed at a level where he is clearly a first ballot HOF'er. Now he is banned for life? This just seems to lack common sense and undue rigidity. It's like the zero tolerance rule where because of the rule administrators have no choice but to suspend some honor student for bringing a nail clipper or a midol to school.
 
Midol? Geez I'm surprised they let them come back.

I hear you Deacon. Keep in mind though that the NFL is real bad at what "lifetime" means. They aren't quite as stupid as the powers that be in MLB and aren't known for screwing their product over.
 
I think the problem here is actually the marijuana "issue" - players commit far more egregious crimes and end up with less suspension than a dude blowin a lil flower. THAT is what should be changed more than anything. Domestic violence is something not to be taken as lightly as it has been to be sure. But the outcry is more a comparative injustice.

So keep your hands to yourself. You know the rules. Why should i worry about a guy who likes to hit his woman and if he gets into the HOF or not. Its not my problem he likes to hit his woman.
 
The left hook to the face and subsequent knock out was apparently not a deal breaker for her....She married him.

Let's see if she is as forgiving when his 10 million dollar salary disappears.

I smell a divorce in the works (while he still has something left) yet the "domestic abuse" that wasn't enough to prevent her vows will now be enough to cancel them.
