This is assuming that Jeff Garcia is no long a part of our squad. If he's here, it will stay the same likely, just saying that we need a young guy to mold (don't give me that Josh Johnson crap). On defense there's no real shocker there. Our scheme is based on front 4 pressure and we haven't gotten that in awhile.

Baltimore Ravens:

This is a bit tough to figure out right now with half of their starting LBers UFA's. I am going to assume that they resign Lewis and Suggs.....

1. CB - Rolle is getting old, F Walker is OK at best and Ivy is like toast. Washington played solid and should hold down one of the spots next year. McAllister will be gone...

2. WR - Mason is an old warrior and Clayton is OK. This team lacked the big play WR that Flacco needs....

3. OL/DL - can never have enough depth...

Raiders:

1. Head Coach- Al...just hire Herm Edwards!

2. OL- The O-Line was better, I mean the Raiders run the ball with the best of em, but they can't see to pass for ish!!!

3. WR- Get a downfield threat this offseason, Higgins was decent, but he isn't the answer

New England Patriots -
First of all, let me express how pissed I am that an 11-5 record wasn't good enough to make the playoffs this year. "How does that have anything to do with draft needs?" aaah.... good question Beermutts. The fact that a playoff team known as the Chargers will pick 7 slots before the Patriots in every round is what makes my blood boil. Does this make sense to anyone? If your team is good enough to make the playoffs, with a chance to advance to the championship game, why should you be picking ahead of a team that wasn't good enough to make it?
Aaaahhh, ok ... I feel better now.

The Patriots again were brilliant last year in trading away the 31st pick in the 3rd round for a 2nd rd pick this year (now the 2.15). This will pay huge dividends.

First position to address ... LB. Yeah, I know they took Mayo last year and he was HUGE! But they still need one if not two more to replace the ancient Bruschi, Seau, Colvin and whoever else they pulled out of the nursing home last year.
Second ... with 2 picks in the second round I would expect a CB/S and maybe a RB if there is one they like on the board. If not RB then a O-guard or tackle for sure.
Third ... if O line wasn't addressed in the second, they take one here.

Bengals:
1. Offensive Line - Despite a good amount of money tied up here, this remains the top need on the team. They need help at OT with Levi's health in question and Andrews coming off major knee surgery and being a UFA. Another big need here is Center, they can't continue to ignore this spot, my preference is a top FA, but drafting one at the top of the 2nd would be a good investment as well.

2. Defensive Line - This unit need almost a complete overhaul. The DE's need improvement to get pressure on the QB and another DT is needed to pair with Peko.

3. Running Back - They may opt to resign Benson, even if they do a dynamic compliment to him is a must as this offense needs to add some explosiveness to it.

Secondary needs: WR (could become primary or no need at all depending on what happens with TJ and Chad); LB.

TO THE DEATH
Houston Texans

Offense-
C-The value of a veteran center would help a young o-line mature. A true leader on the o-line has really hurt here. While a young talented center would be nice for the long term, an experience player here would help solidify a shaky o-line.
RG-This is a gaping hole on the o-line and needs serious attention.

Surprisingly enough, the rest of the offense is set.

Defense-
DE- Another quality DE would help alleviate the double team on Williams. Williams has shown he can be productive either way, but another DE that draws the attention of the o-line will help funnel the run game outside and help with QB containment.

RCB-Reeves is not the answer. He has proven that he can be a valuable backup, but an every down starter he is not. As long as they lack a true #2 corner, they will continue to get toasted in the passing game.

OLB-Bentley is a quality backup and only a stop gap at outside linebacker. A good blitzing linebacker will help Ryans get freed up in the middle and only open up the pass rush by the ends.

The 49ers are really not that far away. For the first time in awhile, there's no overwhelming need. Will be interesting to see what kind of changes they make on the defensive side of the ball with Singletary clearly in charge now. Wonder if they'll look at going to a '46' style of defense. There are definitely needs for upgrades, especially in projecting the future look of the team. Niners looking at hiring their seventh offensive coordinator in the past seven years. That can't be a good thing. And still feel that everyone in the organization is just keeping the seat warm for a big-time hire like Gruden.

QB - Shaun Hill did a yeomans job last year, but is obviously not the future face of the franchise. If Sanchez is available at #10, think they snap him up without a 2nd thought. Always hated with a passion the pick of Alex Smith, and he's due 9.5 million this year. To say he got rushed into the NFL might be the biggest understatement of all-time. Think they stick with Hill again this year, and re-work Smith's contract to bring him in as a back-up. Martz cronies J.T. O'Sullivan and Jamie Martin are gone.

Running Back - Frank Gore is one of the best there is, and DeShaun Foster is manageable. Could bring in some athleticism from the back of the draft at this position. Would also like to see an upgrade at fullback over Michael Robinson and Zach Kearney.

Receivers - Very satisfied with the current status of Josh Morgan and Jason Hill, with Isaac Bruce there to mentor them. Bryant Johnson will probably not be there next year. They invested a #6 overall pick on Vernon Davis, the next OC needs to find a way to get him more involved. Could use an impact Returner/Slot Receiver ala Harry Douglas.

Offensive Line - Set at LT with Joe Staley, and one of the guard positions with Chilo Rachal. Biggest upgrade needs to occur at LG and RT, though Rachal might be moved to the left side to solidify. Center is a position that could be looked at on the first day, especially if Alex Mack from Cal slides into the 2nd round.

Defensive Line - Team is set with team MVP Justin Smith at one end and last year's 1st round pick Kentwan Balmer on the other. Team desperately needs a Haloti Ngata type presence in the middle of the line. Is B.J. Raji that type of player?

Linebackers - Most impressive unit on the team. Just needs to stay healthy. Willis and Spikes are mainstays in the middle, Manny Lawson has a world of potential, and Parys Haralson led the team in sacks. Roderick Green offers good pass-rushing specialist, while Ulrich and Banta-Cain offer experienced depth.

Secondary - Team grossly overpaid for Nate Clements, but he's the anchor of the secondary. Need to upgrade across from Clements, and could use a first day or even first round pick in that regard. Safety position is good, but as we've seen in the NFL playoffs, needs to be great. Michael Lewis is solid, but team needs a big upgrade from Mark Roman. Possibly a William Moore from Missouri. Know I hated to see Travis Mays stay in college, as he'd be a perfect fit in the Ronnie Lott tradition. For now, depth in secondary needs to be addressed. Basically, need to find more playmakers, ala Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Special Teams - Set with Joe Nedney and Andy Lee, two of the best in the business. Allen Rossum is one of the top return men, and I would see no reason not to bring him back for 2009.

So, to wrap up, think the Niners go with Sanchez if he's there at #10, otherwise it could be NT/DT. If Moreno is there, wouldn't be shocked to see them take him in this day of DeAngelo Williams/Jonathan Stewart style combinations. But the biggest need on the team is impact secondary skill players. If I could draw up the Niners draft, I'd like to see them get Mark Sanchez in the first round, Alex Mack/William Moore in the second round, and Macho Harris in the third round.

I won't speak for the Vikes' fans, but I would say they need a decent WR, and depth on both lines. They could always use another LB and DB as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see them pick another QB late in the draft. Lets see who is available to them.

Philadelphia Eagles:
OT is a dire need - The two OTs are FAs this year I believe and both are long of tooth. We need some OT depth to take over.
OL in general needs support.
Cb - assuming Lito is gone, a solid #3 is really needed.
Te - Smith is a waste of life, and Celek looks promising..but we need more
Wr - Jackson was a winner, but a tall receiver for over the middle would help.
DL - depth needed.

SEA team needs:

Just about everywhere sans TE, LB, & DE.

With needs just about everywhere, it makes the Seahawks draft interesting this year as they can go a number of ways and have their highest draft spot in over a decade to do it with. TE is set. Rookie John Carlson just had the greatest offensive season for a TE in Seahawks history. LB is one position that is set, unless Leroy Hill bolts via free agency. DE is another position that is set. The Seahawks also need to start thinking about the end of the Jones and Hasselbeck eras and start considering replacements for them too. Franchise OTs are rare, but Seattle is in a position this year to possible land one at #4. The WR and RB corps are pretty weak and could use some help in the draft. S and DL also need improvement too.

JETS:

1) ILB- Ryan has said Gholson will become a Suggs type player but i dont buy it

2) DB- Rookie was exposed especially when the jets couldnt pressure the qb.

3) QB- Need a backup for Clemens. Who knows what favre does this year?

4) OL- Woody and Faneca are getting older.

5) WR- big speedy receiver needed. Most mocks have the jets using thier first pick on a wr but that would be a mistake.

Pittsburgh absolutely needs to come away from the 1st 3 rounds with at least 2 offensive lineman and a defensive back (preferably a CB or pass coverage Safety). I've been asking for basically the same thing for 2 years and the Super Bowl pretty much proved both needs.
For the sake of the post, let's go:
1. O-Line (any)
2. CB
3. S
4. DE
5. DT

Also, a request for a 49ers/Steelers matchup in SB 44 so we can go 4-0 vs. the current NFC West all-time in the big game... We'll take Hoculi's crew.

Agree 100,000% with WesDawg on the Steeler needs and they were on display last night. O line must be #1 priority for both off season and in the draft. Our guys are fat and slow and for added fun they aren't a mauling line. That has to change this offseason in free agency and should be built for the future through draft. We also need to experiment with taking a corner high again. We need depth big time. We could also use a cover safety and keep Troy as a SS for hits (when he doesn't WHIFF like last night).

I'd also submit we could look at a cheap veteran wide receiver if Sweed doesn't pan out.
