Pretty simple poll here. Each voter needs to select two options:

Did Kelly make the right choice is the top two options
Did Notre Dame make the right choice are the bottom two options


I voted no for Kelly and yes for Notre Dame.
 
I voted no and no.

The only thing that will save this guy here is huge success, and he will have to achieve it quickly. If he struggles, and I think he will, the alumni will quickly go after him, his baggage, and his beliefs.
 
This is an easy poll. The answers are easy: yes, yes.

It is a great move for Brian Kelly as he takes over one of the big time programs, with vast resources in the region he has been coaching and winning in all of these years.

It is a great move for Notre Dame because they finally have hired a head football coach for the first time since Lou Holtz.

I hate Notre Dame, but they will be back. Kelly is a winner & with Notre Dame finally having competent leadership at football CEO, they will finally earn their BCS berths rather than steal them away from more deserving teams.
 
Kelly will never have a year at Notre Dame like he had this year at UC.....NEVER, mark it down and take it to the bank, he'll never go undefeated, never finsih the season in the top 3 of the BCS.....just won't happen. Can't say I blame him for going due to the perception, but he will soon find that perception is NOT always reality and the reality here will be much colder than his perception.
 
Miller, the problem with ND the last decade and a half has been the head coaches. The right coach will again open those pipelines from Seattle-O'Dea, Concord-De La Salle, Ventura-St. Bonaventure, etc.

No, I expect they will finally earn a BCS bid as opposed to stealing one away from a more deserving team ala 2000, 2005, & 2006. The problem with ND has been the coaching. Why hasn't Bob Davie landed another job? Ty Willingham is flat out finished in this business & Fatty will never coach college again.
 
Sorry kingdome, not buying it. The problem is much, much deeper than just coaching. This is not the 80's! The whole college environment has changed.

ND can not recruit the speed at the skill positions on a consistent basis enough to compete for a title. They choose to place academics first, which is great......but also makes a national title simply unrealistic, no matter who the coach is.

Bottom line is the most accomplished team Kelly will ever coach is the one he just walked away from.

Miller, the problem has been coaching. That is why ND hasn't betting getting better recruits. Get a good coach there & they will land plenty of quality recruits. The whole academics thing is way overblown. They have lost players they used to get not to academics, but to other programs with better coaches.

Where's your proof that ND's problem hasn't been the coaching? You think either Davie, Willingham, or Weis are decent coaches? All three are awful!

Imagine what Notre Dame could have been over the last decade if they landed players like Maurice Drew or Taylor Mays? How about Nate Burleson? He's fast. Coaching matters in college football. Even the most blessed programs like USC will fail (Paul Hackett) when you hire a chump. ND hasn't had a decent coach since Holtz.
 
I'm sick of being the sole ND supporter around here. I've said my piece and all that happens is a digression into fights that quite frankly I'm sick of having
 
Kingdome, I guess we shall see then, I stand by my statement that the best team Kelly will ever have is this year's UC team.....the day ND goues undefeated you will know when to find me....my guess is you'll be in the grave before that day....

The problem remains far more than just coaching.....
 
Cincy will have to win the bowl game to make it a really special season. They only played three of the current top 25 teams, all ranked below 15. Washington sucks ass right now, but even we have had a season better than Cincy '09 this decade. It really isn't that tough these days it seems. Boise State, Utah, Oregon State, West Virginia, Kansas, Oregon, and a bunch of other schools have won BCS bowls this decade. Notre Dame can too with the right coach.
 
The coaches that ND has hired in the past were well thought of when they got to ND.....

And I disagree about Cincy having to win the Bowl Game, to finish the regular season undefeated and #3 in the BCS is something that school has never dreamed of and may never do again. It was a special season already for them.

And as far as ND is concerned, it's not a BCS game win they crave, it's a NT and they won't get one IMO, no matter who the coach is.

And Washington, no matter how bad they are right now, is a storied college program with 3 National Championships......to compare them to a Cincinnati program that has never tasted any success before the last couple years is reaching big time. And even then if you just compare regular seasons, UC went undefeated, the 2000 Huskies lost to Oregon.....

And since you mentioned Washington, I think they have a better shot of returning their program to National Title contention at some point than ND does.

Really? Davie & Weis lacked HC experience & were unknown quantities or weren't regarded as great recruiters. Why is a program like ND taking a chance on unknown quantities? Because of idiotic leadership. Ty Willingham had a track record, a mediocre one while a Stanford. Yet ND hired him. They were looking at non-football PC things, not football when they hired him.

Consider Bill Walsh left him with more future NFL talent than any program in the country in the late 90's, yet where are all those bowl wins? Ty couldn't even develop a 5 Star, Parade AA QB, & had two of them!

Notre Dame hired some real bozos since Holtz. Imagine what they would have been had they hired Barry Alvarez or promoted Urban Meyer?

Yes, they lost to top 10 Oregon on the road, but they also beat 3 BCS bowl teams that year. Won the Rose Bowl, & beat the Sugar Bowl & Fiesta Bowl winners.

Cincy has an easier road to the BCS. No powers like USC to have to go through every year, smaller conference. One team can become a Florida State in the ACC in the 90's type of team in the Big East. It looked like Louisville was about to pull it off before Petrino jumped ship. Cincy could easily be that program if they invest some $ right now. They are one of two BCS programs in football rich Ohio, the foundation is there ready to build on.
