Remember, this is based on re-draft leagues and non ppr scoring.

Today's Match-up:

Reggie Wayne vs Steve Smith

 Last Year's Stats:
Reggie Wayne - 16 gms - 82 rec - 1,145 rec yds - 6 rec TD
Steve Smith - 14 gms - 78 rec - 1,421 yds - 6 rec TD's

Today's Match-up is between two WR's who at one point were considered among the fantasy elite. Are they still in that class? Can you still build your teams around them? Wayne came back to earth last year after a career year in 2007, can be regain his 2007 form? Can he improve his TD numbers, or has Peyton found more reliable redzone targets? Smith came on very strong down the stretch and made up for missing the first two games due to suspension. Are some sleeping on him due to the lack of TD's? Can he improve those TD's this year? These are just some of the questions you will need to answer in today's close call.
 
Ill go with Wayne in redraft and SSmith in dynasty,but Im not crazy about either at their ADP and would rather have Colston,Roddy, or Jennings.
 
I'm going Steve Smith here. Kid is a stud and was one of the more consistent WR's in the league last year. Missed the first 2 games and STILL hit 1400 yds! Project his yds to 16 games and he's over 1600! tds are a bit low, but with his consistently I can live with that. Out of 14 starts, only 2 games under 50 yds. I think here is your most under appreciated WR heading into the year one of the best values being drafted towards the end of rd 2. This is a top 5 WR for sure, and I'd put him right up there with the top 3. If Smith can find the endzone just a few more times this year me make make a run at the top. With the strength of the running game you can't afford to blanket him....Smith should have a great year once again. I'm looking for around 1500 yds and 9 TD's.

Wayne should be better than he showed last year. I expect his TD's numbers to bounce back to around 10, but don't see the yds that Smith is going to rack up. No problem with getting him, but not over Smith for me.
 
I personally like Steve Smith to outperform Reggie Wayne this year. He did better last year while missing TWO games.
 
There are really no questions surrounding Smith. He gets it done, game in and game out.

Although there isn't much concern over Wayne's situation, there is the total change in coaching staff.

Yes, Peyton is the coach on the field, but there seems to be some troubles in Indy. It might not be anything to worry about, but it's more than Smith.
 
I'm going with Steve Smith as well. I have always thought highly of him, and he is set up to have a monster year unless he gets injured or breaks another teammates nose. :)
 
I have to agree with ER regarding Smith. However, since Peyton is his own play caller I think he'll rely on the stability of his connection with Wayne especially with the loss of Marvin Harrison. I wouldn't build my team around him, but I'd pick him up for a solid #2 WR.
 
I'm going Wayne because of his team. He's easily a solid #1 WR IMO, yet not really a solid 1st rounder. Turn of the 1st and 2nd I'd say. Wayne has a better QB and is now the undisputed #1 reciever in INDY. Not take anything away from Steve Smith, who's phenominal, but I would draft Wayne over him.
 
Must add this, and I know that it's a close call thread between Wayne and Smith, but I would take Boldin over both of these guys.

Last year in only 12 games Boldin had 89 Rec, 1,038 yards and 11 TDs
 
I went Steve Smith also. It will be interesting to see if Wayne steps up to become an elite with out Marvin or if he needed that distraction.

I will add that Manning may throw more and for more yards, but he also has more people to feed. Smith is the man, and he is protected well with a real good running game. Smith easily for me.
 
The ONLY reason I don't just go Steve Smith is Delholme. Or, I should say who is behind Delholme. If he gets hurt again.....it is game over for S.S.

Still, you can't argue the performance, and the ability of S.S. Plus, he is the only show in town on the passing downs....so I still will go S.S.
 
Tough call for me since I think Smith is the most physically gifted receiver this side of the big four, but Delhomme can really suck at times and that guy who throws the ball to Wayne is pretty good. Smith has to make great plays to get his. Wayne just has to catch the ball.

I personally don't see what people see in S.Smith. People see him as a great WR, but he's really only had 2 WR#1 FF years and he's on a run first team. Wayne is an easy choice here.
