49ers released QB Matt Barkley.

The writing was on the wall for Barkley when third-round rookie C.J. Beathard played ahead of him in the Niners' second and third preseason games.

Cardinals released RB Chris Johnson.

Johnson re-signed just before training camp and didn't look the same in preseason, losing out for the Cardinals' No. 2 running back job to Kerwynn Williams.

Cowboys released Ronnie Hillman.

It is a surprise after Hillman worked as the No. 3 back in the third preseason game.

Steelers released RB Knile Davis.

Davis drew a surprise start over backups Fitzgerald Toussaint and James Conner in Pittsburgh's third preseason game but ultimately didn't show enough to make the final 53.

Bears released WR Victor Cruz. :(

Eagles released QB Matt McGloin.

It's been a hard, fast fall for McGloin since he injured his shoulder in relief of Derek Carr last Week 17. He's gone from getting tendered at the second-round level as a 2016 restricted free agent to out on the street.

Now we know why Snead has been on the outs in the Big Easy. Man they kept this out of the news.

NFL suspended Willie Snead three games for violating the league's policy on substances of abuse.

The suspension reportedly stems from an offseason DUI, but this is the first we have heard of it. Adam Schefter reports the ban was reduced from four games to three on appeal, which makes it even more shocking it stayed under wraps.
