rotoworld,
The Tampa Tribune suggests that Derrick Ward is in danger of not making the team this year.

A trade or a release are both realistic possibilities, according to the Tribune. Ward looked awfully sluggish on a rain-slicked field Saturday night while Cadillac Williams and Kareem Huggins both looked fantastic. Ward is due $3.25 million this year -- a lot to pay for a third-string tailback.

Can't say that I'm surprised. Watching him at TC was like watching a volleyball match between a varsity and a kindergarten team. Some plays his head was in the game. Others, he looked to be on par with Eugene*. Ward failed to make a solid impression last year decreasing the amount of wiggle room he has this year.

I don't see Olsen or Raheem keeping a roster spot open for mediocre. Not when such hungry RB's are feeding from the trough. Remember, they've already brought rookie Carlos Brown on board. And with talk of trading Clifton Smith during preseason, coaches aren't playing favorites with veterans.

Eugene is the red-headed ball boy who debuts every TC and tries to keep up with the big boys, but hysterically falls short on the field except in the entertainment department.

Earnest Graham is a true Buccaneer. He's a dual processor between the FB and RB roles. I'm curious to see how they utilize him this year.

Really underused Graham last year despite all the proof to the contrary, as he was always very effective when they used him in the past.

Graham has very much became the forgotten man in Tampa. If Ward does not make the team I expect we'll hear from Earnest this season.

(RotoWire) After gaining only 20 yards on 12 carries and fumbling twice (one lost) in the preseason opener against the Dolphins, Ward's job is now on the line, according to the Pewter Report. Analysis: Ward seemed down on himself at times during the game and head coach Raheem Morris did not like what he saw from Ward. Ward has now said his next preseason game will be great. He better hope it is because Morris said that Ward needs to play better if he wants to be a part of Buccaneers heading into the regular season. Cadillac Williams is currently entrenched as the team's No.1 back and Kareem Huggins is breathing down Ward's back for the No.2 job.

I don't know how we're going to keep "him" secret for much longer Coach.....

I think I'm falling in love...... hope someone is there to catch me.

This is pathetic. You know you're slipping when you can't make the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' final roster.

Speaking of which...how in the HELL is Michael Clayton still in the NFL?

Interesting poll in the paper this morning. It asked readers who they would rather have as #2 to Caddy. 43% went to Huggins, 42% to Graham, 11% to Ward, and 4% to Smith. Glad to see that everyone is getting on the same page here, head coach included. Ward promised a "great performance" against the Chiefs, I imagine his fate will lie in this game.

I can only compare it to golf. You can play 17 crappy holes and shoot 110, but if you birdie 18, that alone makes you come back for another round. Clayton may only score one TD all season, but for some reason, that convinces that coaching staff that he may not really suck, and his 5 year slump is over.
