SO Members Mock Draft Disscussion Thread

The Rams have to take DJ Moore. They desperately need a CB and DJ Moore is the best prospect left before a pretty large talent drop.

Well AD is out for the weekend and Hawk's has not been around (sent him a PM to see if he wanted to fill in) so I will make Seattle's pick. Give me a few and I'll come up with something.

Sounds like you just volunteered ;)

When we did the 7-round mock, we had it divided into a master list, a position list, and a team list. But since I have no mod powers obviously, it really wouldn't be of much use for me to set anything up.

First, you cant tell who is winning this with merely the first round and several second round picks completed. Everyone has a legitimate case. The really good teams make the best selections in the mid to late rounds....

As for some of the previous picks...

New England - Sean Smith is a solid pick here. I know I said they should go for CB here, but they do have a need at safety too and with the ability to play nickel and safety, Smith nearly helps at two positions. The only other option would have been DJ Moore, but you sacrificed CB for help at two positions and I cant say I blame you.

St. Louis - With all due respect, this is a horrible pick. Im sorry. But there is so much more need than an overrated LB that is likely a steroid case. DJ Moore would have given you solid corner play and there are many solid LBs later in the draft. I would say this pick alone just removed St. Louis from the ranks of the winning draft boards.

Cleveland - I like this pick. English is a prototypical 3-4 player and with Mangini taking the reigns, English is a solid pick. Im a little surprised that you didnt select Tyson Jackson, but I think the lack of surity that he can perform in a 3-4 begs the question and led to English. Nice pick

Seattle - I think the Delmas pick was one of those choices where you couldnt really decide who to take. William Moore is the higher rated of the two safeties, but lingering hamstring issues probably make him a liability this high. Delmas has consistently risen up draft charts and I think he'll make a solid pro, but Rashad Johnson from Alabama, or Patrick Chung from Oregon all make sense here, so I cant fault this pick. Nice job.

Cincinnatti - William Beatty is a player Im curious about. I know that he is looking like an early second rounder, but Im a little concerned about his level of consistent competition. Having said that, he's a solid pick in the second round and could probably come in and play. With needs at C, DT, and WR, this is a good pick with good value. Nice job.

Great feedback jsmith, on the Seattle pick, I have Delmas as the top S available this year with Johnson, Chung and Moore grouped in behind him. Just my opinion, but that is why I made the pick for Seattle that I did.

As far a Beatty, I was swaying between interior line and tackle and in the end feelt Beatty has the skill set to come in and protect Palmer's blind side and allow Whit to stay at gaurd long term.

For Jacksonville, I was hoping to select Sean Smith but the Pats got him a few picks earlier (the pick they got from the Matt Cassel trade to KC). Once he was gone there were a few holes to think about for the Jags. One was their secondary which again, I was hoping to get Smith. I thought about S, but there were two reasons I didn't go there. 1st, that's not their biggest hole, 2nd in this draft they got Rey in the 1st round so I felt like offense became more important. I almost went DE here but the same concern arose.

Looking at the offense, there were three problems I saw: O-line, receiving, and RB (only because MJD is the only true back there now. I know they have Greg Jones but still, the loss of Fred Taylor has me worried). I thought the best way of knocking as many birds out of the air with one stone here was TE. You can get a blocker and a receiver. My first thought was Chase Coffman. Best hands of any TE coming into the draft, but probably the crappiest blocker out of the top 5.

Jared Cook impresses the hell out of me. He's the most athletic guy you'll find, can block exceptionally well, and is a great threat down field through the air. Thus the pick was, Jared Cook.

i could see going after a wr, but not another te . . . but that's just me . . . ;)

Have to agree, Marcedes Lewis is a player who should continue to emerge, and they invested a 1st round pick on him.

Jacksonville - Sorry bossman but I have to agree that this pick was really bad. First of all, Jared cook is a tremendous athlete, but not one that Jacksonville needs. They have Marcedes Lewis, George Wrighster, and Greg Estandia if I remember correctly. There are plenty of good level safeties there that you could team with Reggie Nelson. I agree that RB can wait, but you could have grabbed the number one guard or a top tier tackle here. And if you really want offense, there are some top tier talent like Kenny Britt from Rutgers. The Cook selection was a reach and if you are overly concerned about blocking why select someone that my not play everydown?

Oakland - Cant argue with this pick. Again, William Moore is available but like I said, it could be obvious his injuries are hurting his stock. I think this is a good pick, and for much of the same reasons you mentioned.

Green Bay - Tyson Jackson is a steal here!! Great pick. He'll immediately add to a young and hungry defense and allow the Packer secondary some help with QB pressure. I cant believe he fell this far, but what a great find. So far, this could be one of the better steals of the draft.

Thanks for covering for me Miller. With the way it has gone I like the pick. Chung seems to be a favorite on the Hawk forums, but I think a lot of that is because he's a local guy

1st off, AD, thanks so much for the master list, that's awesome.

2nd even though I made the Cook selection, I can't argue with you guys. That was a tough pick to pull the trigger on. It took me like 30 minutes to finally post it because I felt so torn. My logic was that "they'll never make this pick, they have Mercedes..." I never thought it was a clear cut winner, but it was different. That's what it namely came down to.

Love the feedback for every pick, especially you jmsmith1. You're doing great man!

Miami definitely needs to go LB here, and I see two picks available...either Connor Barwin out of Cincy, or Darryl Beckwith out of LSU. They must upgrade their LB corps and already addressed their CB need.

that's kinda strong . . . crowder resigned and they picked up a pass rush specialist from the cfl to start opposite porter . . . i could see drafting more lb's for depth, but i don't think they "have" to go lb here . . . i think dt or even wr would be a smarter pick . . . just my opinion . . . ;)

That proves my point. No CFL player is going to come in and contend for a starting spot. Secondly, Joey Porter is getting old and a successor needs to be picked up. WR is still an option but they still have later picks with better value. The only WRs in my opinion worth a pick here are Kenny Britt and Joaquin Iglesias who might fall to the third round
