the obvious is true, like Pettigrew. after that...the game is going to tell more, i hope.
I usually pull much more out of the practices from SB week than I do the actual game.

BJ Raji & Phil Loadhurt are a defensive and offensive lineman that are making noise. Raji is solidifying himself as the best DT in this class and could rise to that top 10 status. Loadhurt is helping his stock tremendously and if he keeps this up will be rising up some draftboards.

Another guy I like from these practices so far is Jeriamiah Johnson out of Oregon. Little guy who runs HARD! Good vision and creative once he gets some room. He could come in right away and be part of an effective RBBC.

I'll get to the Tuesday South highlights later today.

South Practice report from Tuesday

South Practice report from Tuesday (summarized from observations by nfldraftcountdown.com)

  • OT Michael Oher displayed his agressive side as he was repeatedly getting physical and nasty with the defensive linemen. Consistency continue to be a concern as Viekune beat him on back to back plays. But aside from that lapse, Oher looked very dominanting and is one of the better linemen here this week.
  • ILB Ray Maualuga displayed quick feet for a guy his size and was good in pursuit. Looked a bit uncomfortable in coverage though.
  • DT Peria Jerry stood out on the defensive front. Got a good push up the middle and used his strength to look dominating at times.
  • QB Pat White showed off his quickness and athletic ability, but his passing skills are limited.
  • QB Cullen Harper doesn't have a strong arm and his release is long. He struggled with the deep ball and his accuracy was nothing to brag about. Harper is not impressing anyone this week.
  • OG Herman Johnson does not look ready. He's consistently getting beat. He wants to drop 20 lbs, but has not at this point.
  • QB John Parker Wilson showed average accuracy and struggled throwing the ball into the wind.
  • TE Shawn Nelson displayed great hands and is looking to be the best TE on the South roster.
  • OLB is having a good week, he looked smooth and comfortable in coverage and had a big hit today in 11 on 11's.
  • OT Jason Watkins moved well in pass protection and is doing well this week.
  • DT Fili Moala was very inconsistent. Looking solid at times yet getting beat at times to. Has not jumped off the page yet.
  • WR Mohammed Massaquoi rebounded from a slow first day. Had good acceleration off the line and get seperation. He rounded off a good day by displaying good hands as well.
  • WR Kenny McKinley showed great speed and was able to show off good body control and hands.
  • WR Mike Thomas was another WR who looked good today and is helping himself this week.
  • S Rashad Johnson showed great hustle and displayed good tackleing technique in the open field.
  • S Derek Perues' lack of recovery speed was exposed today when he was beat off the line in press coverage and failed to recover.
  • DE Kyle Moore showed a flash of promise by beating Antoine Caldwell on back to back plays.
  • C Antoine Caldwell, despite the lapse against Moore, had a solid day.
  • WR Mike Wallace showed very good route running ability and decent hands, needs to work on avoiding letting the ball get into his body.
  • RB Arian Foster does not have breakaway speed but did show nice vision and the ability to amke some room in traffic.
  • RB Andre Brown had a nice day showing good speed for his size and had an impressive cutback run. He also displayed his power by breaking a tackle and running over Coye Francies on another play.
  • WR Patrick Turner did not look fast at all and struggled to get off the line.
  • WR Quan Cosby never created much seperation from the DB's.
  • RB Rashard Jennings didn't show much speed or quickness and isn't standing out this week.
  • S Chip Vaughn made a great play on a deep ball in which he went up and took it away from the receiver for the INT.
  • OLB Ashlee Palmer displayed great quickness.
  • DE Robert Ayers struggled today and was found on the ground a lot. He showed flashes after getting pancaked, definatly has a mean streak to him.
  • DE Lawrence Sidbury didn't show good speed and may not fit into any scheme, maybe a 3-4 DE?

North Practice report from Wednesday

North Practice report from Wednesday (summarized from observations by nfldraftcountdown.com)

  • This is expected to be the last full pads practice and the last day to work infront of most of the scouts.
  • BJ Raji continues to do it all. He has been the star of this week for the North and Wednesday was no exception. The only question with Raji is how high will his stock rise?
  • TE/DE Connor Barwin got his first shot to work to at DE and looked more at home than at TE. He showed a nice ability to get up field, he is a solid pass rusher. At TE, he once again looked out of place.
  • WR Ramses Barden was very effective working the short and intermediate routes. He caught the ball in traffic and showed good body control and leaping ability.
  • CB Victor Harris struggled today having a problem staying on his feet while covering crossing routes and does not apear to have top speed.
  • OLB Clint Stintim continued to struggled to get off blocks and got pushed around some. He does show good instincts as he blew up a screen pass at one point.
  • DE Larry English displayed a good motor and had a good day overall. He impressed on bag drills early and eas equally impressive in 11 on 11's recording a sack on a nice inside move. His stock is rising.
  • DT Alex Magee may have arried late, but wasted no time making an impression. He handled Trevor Canfield in the "Pit".
  • OLB Nic Harris continues to try to make the transition to LB. He had a nice showing against Brandon Pettigrew where he jammed him on the line and turned and ran with him in coverage.
  • OT Phil Loadhurt was placed on both sides on the line today and got beat at times. He continues to look better on the left side than the right where he is projected by many to play.
  • C/G Max Unger lined up at both positions today and showed great flexibility. His mobility is above average and he's able to get a nice push in the run game.
  • TE John Philips looks to decent as a receiver but has struggled as a blocker. He showed the ability to go over the middle and showed nice hands.
  • WR Juaquin Iglesias looked good on some long balls today and also was able to get past Darius Butler on a catch and run.
  • S William Moore has a mean streak and is a big hitter, but lacks confidence in coverage skills. SS apears to be his best fit.
  • WR Derrick Williams had a great day. DB's has a hard time covering him in 1 on 1 drills. He was crisp and quick getting out of his cuts and was able to get good seperation.
  • OLB Marcus Freeman continued to have a nice week. He's been making plays all week and today was not exception as he made a nice play in the backfield and intercepted a pass later.
  • QB Rhett Bomar continued to look like the best of the North QB's, but he struggled getting the snap from center as he fumbled 3 from under center and one in the shotgun.
  • QB Graham Harrell seems to be able to make all the throws, but he does't seem to have the best velocity or the quickest release. He also needs a lot of work adjusting to working under center.
  • DT Mitch King continues to make plays. He may not look like your prototype DT, but if he keeps making plays he will find a spot.
  • RB Kory Sheets showed some promise today having his best day. He ran with speed and power while mixing in some elusiveness. For the first time this week he stood out.
  • RB Cedric Peerman looks plain average, average speed, no burst.
  • WR Brian Robiskie continued to be inconsistent. He would look good one play and not the next.
  • TE Brandon Pettigrew stood out again as a blocker but was not fluid as a receiver.
  • CB Darius Butler is a river boat gambler. He is super agressive but fails to recover well when be loses a bet. When he gets beat, he seems to get beat bad.
  • CB DeAngelo Smith continues to give up the deep ball, even while giving a large cushion in coverage.
  • S Patrick Chung was good in run support but struggles in coverage.
  • Jeremiah Johnson struggled for the first time today. He also fumbled a KO.

South Practice report from Friday (summarized from observations by nfldraftcountdown.com)

  • More of a traditional walk-though, which means not a lot was accomplished, or a lot to talk about.
  • RB Andre Brown looks the part and appears to be in great shape.
  • QB Pat White, while catching balls from the other QB's, actually looked pretty smooth at a WR. His QB play has left a lot to be desired, this may be his option to make it at the next level.
