It's about a week away.

it's probably worth the five bucks (approx) to get the NFL Network for the coverage of practice and the game.

NFL Network Announces Program Lineup for 2009 Under Armour Senior Bowl

NFL Network’s exclusive high-definition coverage of the league’s next generation of talent begins Monday, January 19 at 4:00 PM ET from Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, AL with the Under Armour Senior Bowl and the week-long events leading up to Saturday’s game.

Practice coverage runs Monday through Thursday, January 22 with live two-hour telecasts from North and South team practices. Each night at 8:00 PM ET a 30-minute Path to the Draft Senior Bowl Recap Show airs providing interviews and analysis. The week culminates Saturday, January 24 with the 60th annual Under Armour Senior Bowl at 7:00 PM ET, beginning with a special Under Armour Senior Bowl Pregame Show at 6:30 PM ET. The network’s on-air talent roster from Mobile includes Paul Burmeister, Mike Mayock, Charles Davis and Lindsay Soto. The Senior Bowl features 100 of the country’s best senior collegiate football players and top NFL draft prospects on teams representing the North and South. This year, the North team will be coached by Marvin Lewis and the Cincinnati Bengals staff, while Jack Del Rio and the Jacksonville Jaguars coaches lead the South.

The Senior Bowl is attended annually by more than 800 NFL coaches, scouts and front office personnel searching for the next NFL superstars. NFL Network will be there for the entire week with 17.5 original hours of programming from Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Fans will have an open window to the action all week, including practices and the game, giving them the same view every team uses to help determine its draft.

In 2008, the Senior Bowl produced 11 first-round picks in the NFL Draft and a total of 82 selections overall. 2008 Senior Bowl participant Chris Johnson is one of 25 former Senior Bowl participants to be named to the 2009 Pro Bowl.

Among players who have accepted invitations to participate: quarterbacks Pat White (West Virginia), John Parker Wilson (Alabama) and Graham Harrell (Texas Tech); receivers Derrick Williams (Penn State) and Mohamed Massaquoi (Georgia); tight end Brandon Pettigrew (Oklahoma State); running backs Javon Ringer (Michigan State) and James Davis (Clemson); cornerback Mike Mickens (Cincinnati); and USC linebackers Rey Maualuga, Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews.

This is the third year NFL Network has had the exclusive rights to the Under Armour Senior Bowl. The 2009 Under Armour Senior Bowl is part of NFL Network’s college football and Path to the Draft programming which includes College Football Now, the Insight Bowl, the Texas Bowl and the 2009 Scouting Combine. Live pick-by-pick coverage of the 2009 NFL Draft airs April 25-26 on NFL Network.

Chucky getting the axe made me think of the Senior Bowl. Seems like Gruden was always there.

anyone know how the NFL decides who gets to get a full week ahead of everyone else?

They usually take the two worst records that have coaching staffs in place.
i thought it was something like that

also - probably some salty wordsmiths around these parts with an eye for talent. maybe a couple should report on the South, starting monday, and a couple cover the North.

i'll be throwing some crap together, too

Draft Countdown - 2009 Senior Bowl Weigh-In

Some random comments:

  • OFFENSE
  • Harrell at 6-2' has more size than I thought
  • White came in a 6-0' flat, still don't see him as a NFL QB
  • Andre Brown looked impressive, good size and comments were that he had great muscle tone.
  • Jeremiah Johnson reminds me a lot of MJD. Only 5-8', but notes state he has a compact build. At only 198 may need to add a little bulk to be a MJD type.
  • Rames Barden, don't know anything about him, but 6-6, 227, would like to know what type of speed he has. Long arms and carries weight well.
  • Derrick Williams, on the short side at 5'11, but came is looking stong and very developed. I like him at the next level.
  • Herman Johnson, WOW! 6-7', 382!! Notes state Massive with Lots of Bulk.....that may be an understatement from those numbers!
  • Phil Loadholt came in at 6-8' and 343. Notes had him with a huge upper body, he was part of a very impressive Oklahoma offensive line.
  • Michael Oher, considered one of the top OT's came in at 6-5', 309 but undeveloped in the chest area.
  • Love comments liek this in this each year: Anthony Parker - BAD body and waqs awefully flabby!!

  • DEFENSE
  • Cody Brown, 6-2', 242; notes state Broad shoulders and built like a WR....not sure that is a good thing for a DE.
  • Corvey Irvin, 6-3', 296, soft and unimpressive with a big belly....needs to get in the gym it appears.
  • B.J. Raji came in at 6-1', 334; notes state Stocky fireplug with huge butt.....sounds like someone with a NT frame.
  • Brian Cushing was 6-3', 243 and looked impressive with a strong muscular build.
  • Marcus Freeman at 6-0, 235 may be a little on the short side, but was noted as being barrel chester with good upper body. Could be a workout warrior.
  • Rey Maualuga was 6-1, 254 was was noted as disappointing with a small lower body....but watch the guy play!!

North Practice report from Monday (summarized from observations by nfldraftcountdown.com)

  • DT Evander Hood was impressive showing a great motor and intensity
  • OT Phil Loadhurt was very physical and handeled himself very well and displayed good feet and the ability to handle speed rushers.
  • DE Cody Brown looked over matched and may want to think about a switch to OLB
  • DT BJ Raji looked the part as one of the best DT's in this draft. Sounds like he was taking instruction well and seemed to be quick for his size.
  • QB Rhett Bomar was most impressive out of the North QB's, quick release, nice volocity. But questionable accuracy.
  • WR Derrick Williams was very impressive today. Quick off the line and good acceleration. Looked like the best WR out there today.
  • TE Brandon Pettigrew was impressive as a blocker today.
  • DT Mitch King surprised today. He was constantly around the action and received praise from the coaching staff.
  • OT Xavier Fulton moved easily to the 2nd level and showed the ability to lock on and control his man.
  • RB Cedric Peerman bobled a pass out of the backfield increasing concerns over his small hands.
  • LB Marcus Freeman showed good speed and pursuit.
  • QB Graham Harrell showed good accuracy, but didn't stand out when it came to his release or velocity.
  • Juaquin Iglesias ran good routes but dropped a few catchable balls.
  • WR Brian Robiskie displayed great hands but did not apear to have great speed.
  • WR Brooks Foster was very impressive with great acceleration and seperation ability. Solid route running.
  • RB Jeremiah Johnson was the most impressive of the RB's looking very quick.

South Practice report from Monday (summarized from observations by nfldraftcountdown.com)

  • Windy day affected the QB's accuracy and impacted the ability to scout the WR's and DB's.
  • TE Shawn Nelson showed good receiving skills and was one of the most reliable receivers on the squad. Showed good route running skills as well.
  • RB Rashard Jennings impressed today with his one cut and go style. Running style is a bit upright. Showed the ability to pick up blocks in the passing game.
  • Alphonso Smith showed skills as a ball hawk. Had a nice pick on 11 on 11 and got his hands on a couple other balls in drills.
  • DT Peria Jerry was a beast showing great strength and good pass rush moves. He was seen double teamed by the end of 11 on 11 drills.
  • OT Michael Oher and DE Robert Ayers put on a great show in the pit with classic battles. Both appeared to be impressive and had their moments.
  • DE Lawrence Sidbury showed impressive skills as a pass rusher but was a liability as a run defender. He needs to improve as a run stopper if he's going to be a complete player at the next level. Regardless his pass rush skills will be intriguing to many GM's.
  • DB Coye Francies was great in coverage, very fluid and good ball awareness. He could be one to watch.
  • WR Patrick Turner displayed nice hands. He could be a nice possession receiver, but he's not going to blow you away with his speed.
  • C Eric Wood was impressive with his technique, toughness and coachability. Needs to imporve his strangth at the point of attack, but showed potential.
  • Clay Matthews showed toughness and the ability to be around the action.

North Practice report from Tuesday (summarized from observations by nfldraftcountdown.com)

  • First practice in full pads and Marvin's crew started practive a 1/2 hour early.
  • S Louis Delmas showed leadership and the ability to deliver the big hit. Big, physical and seems pretty fluid. Did get beat deep.
  • TE Brandon Pettigrew excelled as a blocker once again and showed off his receiving skills as well. Runs strong after the catch. Looks to be separating himself as the top TE in this class.
  • DT BJ Raji continues to stand out. He has been over powering, and his stength and quickness has made him stand out.
  • OT Phil Loadholt continues to be the most impressive lineman on the North. He has been dominant thus far.
  • TE Conner Barwin displayes good athleticism but is really struggling as a blocker this week.
  • WR Brandon Gibson has a great day catching everything thrown his way.
  • OLB Clint Sintim struggled today. Showed poor technique as a tackler and poor footwork. He was getting blocked way to easily by RB's. Positive was he did do well in coverage.
  • OLB Marcus Freeman continues to impress and looks like the best LB on the North thus far. He's very athlethic and overpowers RB's trying to block him.
  • DE Tim Jamison was in on a number of plays and even beat OT standout, Phil Loadholt, on a play.
  • QB Rhett Bomar once again looked like the North's best QB. Great velocity on his throws. He is helping his stock out tremendously thus far.
  • DT Evander Hood continues to be quick off the ball and showed off a nice spin move.
  • ILB Scott McKillop struggled today looking slow as he struggled to react qucikly and get off blocks.
  • CB Victor Harris may not be big but he showed good reaction ability and was very quick. One of the more impressive CB's on the North squad so far.
  • CB Darius Butler struggles today as he was beat a couple times and was caught guessing on a short route. However looks quick and his hips are fluid. May be better than it looked today.
  • C Alex Mack has been very solid and has held up fairly well so far. Looks to be the top center coming out.
  • CB DeAngelo Smith showed poor closing time and gave a large cushion on coverage. Tackeling techinue looked poor as well. He did standout in return drills.
  • S David Bruton showed he is a physical player, but speed and transition skills looked below average.
  • C Ryan Shuman showed poor blocking technique and did not show the power to hold up at the point of attack.
  • C Max Unger continues to have a nice week as well, hasn't really been beat and held his own against BJ Raji.
  • WR Brian Robiskie struggled today dropping a pass and did not do well on punt coverage. He did has a nice grab over the deep middle towards the end.
  • QB Graham Harrell was no on his game today. He struggled under center as he fumbled three snaps and made a few bad throws. He's not helping his stock so far this week.
  • WR Derrick Williams did not look like he has a future fielding punts in the NFL. He struggled in this department.
  • RB Jeremiah Johnson is the standout RB on the North squad. He broke a long run today and showed the ability to creat in the open field.
