Here's one of interest.

Panthers released QB/ST Joe Webb.

There are rarely big surprises on cut-down day, but this one at least raises an eye brow. Webb was never going to contribute as a quarterback, but he has been an important asset on special teams the last two seasons. Carolina also cut Garrett Gilbert, leaving them with just two quarterbacks. That is as sure a sign as any they are comfortable with Cam Newton's health.

Giants released QB Josh Johnson.

The move suggests Geno Smith has won the backup quarterback job

Browns acquired WR Sammie Coates and a 2019 seventh-round pick from the Steelers in exchange for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Texans released K Nick Novak.

The move is surprising after Novak converted 85.4 percent of his 41 field goal attempts last season.

Giants waived TE Will Tye.

Tye appeared in all 16 games last season, starting 10, and registered a combined 90 catches for 859 yards and four touchdowns over the past two seasons.

Texans released Weeden.

The Patriots have traded Jacoby Brissett to the Colts for Phillip Dorsett.

That tells me that Luck is not ready and probably not close to being ready

9News' Mike Klis reports the Broncos are expected to have interest in free agent Brock Osweiler.

The Broncos are the first team linked to Osweiler since his Cleveland release. Osweiler had the best season of his career filling in for Peyton Manning in 2015, but has struggled outside of Denver. The Broncos need a backup quarterback with Paxton Lynch (shoulder) expected to miss 2-4 games. Osweiler's contract contains offset language, so he figures to sign for the veteran minimum.

Cowboys released QB Kellen Moore.

Moore entered camp as Dak Prescott's backup, but he was outplayed by Cooper Rush this preseason.

49ers released WR Jeremy Kerley.

The slot receiver led San Francisco in both receiving yards (667) and catches (64) last year but apparently the team's coaching staff preferred fifth-round rookie Trent Taylor.

49ers placed fourth-round RB Joe Williams on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

A hot name this offseason, Williams was buried on the depth chart by the end of August, and it is likely the 49ers were looking for any option to stash the running back without burning a roster spot. With Williams and Tim Hightower gone, UDFA rookie Matt Breida is the back to own behind Carlos Hyde

Chargers activated first-round WR Mike Williams (back) from the PUP.

Williams is not going to play in the season opener, but the move means the Chargers believe the No. 7 overall pick will be ready before Week 7.

Vikings placed Teddy Bridgewater (knee) on the reserve/PUP list.

This means Bridgewater will miss at least the first six games.

Joe Flacco (back) returned to practice Saturday.

The Ravens have always said Flacco would be ready for Week 1.

The Denver Broncos have parted ways with safety T.J. Ward.

There should be a mad rush to try and land him.

Broncos signed QB Brock Osweiler, formerly of the Browns.

He's expected to sign for the veteran's minimum, which would provide some relief to the Browns, who had been on the hook for his entire $16 million salary.

Jaguars EVP Tom Coughlin said he is "not interested" in Colin Kaepernick.

In Coughlin's defense, when your depth chart is topped by Blake Bortles and Chad Henne, you are pretty much set. With training camp done, it is even more unlikely Kaepernick finds a job this season.

Colts removed QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) from the PUP list.

Saints released RB Travaris Cadet.

Chiefs released RB C.J. Spiller.

Coming at you
Really disappointed in SF putting Williams on IR. My expectations were high after watching him in the first preseason game. So fast to get to top speed. Ankle injury not that serious so just stashing him.

He fumbled a couple times. Big deal. Not going to learn on IR. Not like they are making the playoffs this year anyway.

Some speculation that there were issues with the mental part of the game. He does seem really "relaxed" for a football player but that could just be his personality. Hope it doesn't end up being a wasted 4th rounder. Too many of those under the Baalke regime.

I get the deal for Indy, Brissett can be a decent fill in until Luck is back. But I don't get N.E. wanting Dorsett, he can't stay healthy and they just dealt for Cook.

Not as much as you think, they have been basically offering him for almost nothing and no one traded for him. They are incredibly deep at S, and his $4 million salary is a bit much
