LaDainian Tomlinson signs with Jets

I have to think this was more a matter of getting a better backfield receiver. TJ and Greene were very similar runners, and who knows if Washington will return at 100%?

As has been chronicled, Greene still has a tough time catching a cold.

(nfl.com)A half-dozen practices into his tenure with the Jets and RB LaDainian Tomlinson believes he can still be a major contributor. While second-year RB Shonn Greene is expected to handle the bulk of the carries as the starter, Tomlinson should see lots of playing time. And he's earning it by looking good in offseason minicamps and OTAs, according to head coach Rex Ryan, who says L.T. has that "wiggle" back. Tomlinson admitted that learning the Jets' terminology has been a challenge, but the offense itself is familiar to him, and he even spoke out on how his role will change a little bit from years past. "A little difference is I'm moving around, especially in passing situations, and moving all over the place - motioning, shifts - so those are the kinds of things I've got to get used to," he said.

The Jets are setting themselves up for failure. Green and Sanchez go down with injuries and in limps Brunell and LT for 4 qtrs of some really painful football to watch. Even if this was to happen for only a few games, if those games are divisonal games, there season will be over. With all these wheelchair signings, they are sounding desperate to win it all now. Kinda reminds me of the Redskins of years past. And that didn't work out very well. Sure they looked good on paper but when it was time to play, it was the same results all over again.

Some of those motorized wheelchairs can scoot pretty good these days. Maybe that is Brunell's secret plan for success.

The coach had a bunch of nice things to say about LT. But this is what stuck out for me. "When you watch him out here bouncing around doing a great job with protections stop the quote right here. Blocking... this could be a reason that you will see LT on the field more than you would think/expect. No reflection on his capabilities or his capacity to produce at this point.

rotoworld,
The Jets plan on giving LaDainian Tomlinson plenty of reps during the preseason.

Tomlinson almost never played during the preseason while with the Chargers. "With change comes different expectations," offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said. "LaDainian's fighting for playing time. He's got to earn the right. He wants to have the chance to start. So, he's going to have to play." Putting extra wear on Tomlinson's body can only expedite his rapid decline. Shonn Greene is the Jets feature back regardless.

(RotoWire) Tomlinson is expected to get heavy work in the preseason, according to the New York Daily News. Analysis: This is a notable shift from how the Chargers usually handled LT in August; he rarely received touches in their exhibition games (though they broke that trend in 2009). Tomlinson hasn't been guaranteed a specific role with the Jets yet, so these August carries will be an audition of sorts.
