Deshaun Watson - news and rumors

Coming at you
Ask Ben Roethlisberger why he can't, not won't, but can't go back to his alma mater Miami of Ohio. He will get another job.
Yep. One of many examples

Mixon, Kareem Hunt, Ray McDonald just off the top of my head. Ray Rice was about the only one who was actually banned and his punishment would have been minimal if the video wasn't so horrific.

Latest and greatest have NFL getting ready to talk to Watson. He is still being deposed for the 22 civil cases, as he has dodged the criminal charges.

HBO will have some of the accusing women in an interview coming in a few days or weeks - that will only put more pressure on NFL to react.

20 of the 24 cases against Deshaun Watson have settled, this may be why the NFL is getting very close to reacting

Per a report on PFT, the NFL, NFLPA and Watson have started talks on settlement of his civil case issues, this started once he finally decided to settle the claims vs. court dates. However per the report those talks have broken down.

So here is where we stand with Watson.
20 of 24 cases have been settled, and monies exchanged are under NDA so won't be released.
the other 4 and if any others continue to be added, will go to trial unless they complete settlements - but not until off-season next year
Tuesday the NFL, NFLPA and a judge will have disciplinary trial to decide punishment for Watson.
Per sources the NFL is pushing for a suspension of indefinite length that will last at least one season
Per sources the NFLPA and Watson are pushing for a suspension of 6-12 games
The issue is....what the judge will do.
Per one report from PFT - This judge could request any and all evidence for some embarrassing NFL issues - Current Commanders owner issues (Daniel Snyder) or all the evidence on what happened to Patriots owner (in a similar issue - Robert Kraft) to determine a basis if players are held to a different standard than Owners. If that were to happen the NFL would be in a very bad position.
OR
The judge could shut that down if she does not agree with the Defenses position on this.
Last but not least, if NFL does get forced to share this information, they can appeal, but as far as Watson's case, the final judge on the decision of punishment will be Goodell or his set designee for this case .

Net, Watson is facing a potential indefinite suspension, that will last at least 1 year.

Which makes Browns handling of Mayfield even more stupid.

The 3 day hearing with the NFL, NFLPA and the Disciplinary Officer is completed. However per reports it may be a few weeks before a decision is rendered.

Reports out yesterday that Decision by Judge on punishment was to be released Monday 8/1.
Reports also out that NFLPA and Watson have agreed to NOT sue over any decision by the Judge, but reserve the right if NFL changes that level.
NFL has NOT agreed to anything for anything yet.

Also per PFT report - 3 more cases were settled with Watson and civil suits, leaving only 1 case that may still be litigated.

If NFL appeal this decision, NFL Commish Roger Goodell has final say

The browns and Watson have prepared for a longer suspension. Base salary is 690k this year. He will lose pennies
