rotoworld,

The Dolphins have yet to inform Davone Bess of his role for the 2010 season.

"I don’t know," he said. "That’s the thing about this coaching staff. We just do what we’re asked, and the rest will take care of itself." Following the addition of Brandon Marshall, Miami may use more three-receiver looks. Bess would likely stay in the slot, with Greg Camarillo and Brian Hartline competing at flanker. The Fins will likely throw the ball more in 2010.

From what I have read local writers consider Bess a lock as the slot WR. Hartline is considered the early camp favorite for the #2 because he has better hands than Camarillo but it is real early to make a call on this battle.

I actually like Hartline and Bess more this year, with Marshall on the other side taking away coverages. That is if the Dolphins really plan to pass more that is.

The big question, like you said, is how much the Dolphins will actually pass. Bess could end up as effective as the #2WR. You would have to think the Dolphins will try and become more pass happy this year as Brown with a stockpile of injuries and Rickys older wheels neither RB is part of a 5 year plan at this point. But with that said if Brown Stays healthy and Ricky is effective still, the Phins could very well keep on running as long as it is still working.

For a couple of years I've kept putting Bess on my $$ team thinking he'd pay off eventually. I'm hoping this is the year but I won't be holding my breath.

I have to agree with you there. I have grabbed Bess off of the Waiver Wire many times. Some you grab and keep. Some you grab and drop and never go back to. Bess I have added, subtracted and added and subtracted again on several teams. He wins my personal Yo-Yo Wavier Wire Award.

rotoworld,

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald predicts that Brian Hartline will win the Dolphins' starting receiver job opposite Brandon Marshall.

Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel predicts the same. We tend to agree with them, although Hartline winning the job doesn't mean he'll outproduce slot receiver Davone Bess. As a rookie, Hartline exhibited solid possession skills (just three drops in 54 targets) in addition to surprising vertical ability (16.3 YPC). He'll battle Greg Camarillo this summer.

(cbssports.com)The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall finally joined his teammates for their OTA workout Wednesday. Marshall, who has spent most of the offseason rehabbing a hip injury he had surgically repaired in April, ran routes during position drills, where he was paired with Greg Camarillo on the first-team. But after those sessions, Marshall, who the Dolphins acquired in a trade with Denver this offseason, watched during the team portions of practice. "I'm a little ahead of schedule so the more I can do the better it feels," said Marshall. "I'm the type of guy, I want to be out there, especially in a new environment with a bunch of guys who don't know me." QB Chad Henne said having Marshall out there, even for a few sessions, allows them to work on their timing, which he admitted still needs work. Camarillo, meanwhile, is competing with Brian Hartline and Davone Bess for the starting spot opposite Marshall.

Analysis: Camarillo and Hartline will continue to battle for the starting spot, with Bess likely best suited for the slot role. Whoever ends up starting opposite Marshall is worth drafting with a late-round pick, and Bess is a solid selection with a late-round pick in leagues where receptions count.
