And...now we know why they were bringing backs into N.O. - Buck Allen has been placed on IR, and will be out whole season
A.J. Green had ankle surgery - was supposedly just a clean out

Speaking Tuesday, Bengals coach Zac Taylor said A.J. Green (ankle surgery) will miss regular season games.

The team is hopeful it's just "a few" games, but this seriously changes the calculus around Green's average draft position. He sounds all but certain to miss at least two games, with more a distinct possibility. Turning 31 on Wednesday, Green missed seven games last season and six in 2016. John Ross is also on the shelf, leaving Tyler Boyd as the last man standing for the time being. The WR2/3 borderline seems like the appropriate place to gamble on Green right now.

Today will be a more Baseball news day, but here is what I have seen:
CAR - owner Tepper wants a retractable roof stadium in Carolina and willing to kick in money for it
TB - Arians HC is praising Ronald Jones as a top rb candidate - this goes with other reports I have seen
PHI - Eagles are slowing working Fletcher Cox in practice coming back from foot injury - he wants to play NOW....
OAK - Jon Gruden is starting to love himself on Nathan Peterman as back up Qb - oh Yikes!!
DAL - Sean Lee LB is day to day with a knee sprain
MIA - New OL coach made major changes to the OL putting two rookies in at G and moving RG Davis over to RT - lots of changes in Miami
FA - Dez Bryant Wr - has no intention of signing with anyone now, wants to wait and not have to go to camp I guess
WAS - GM stating they still want to hang onto Trent Williams even though they went and signed OT Donald Penn - but Williams wants out by all reports
ARI - Larry Fitzgerald is singing the praises of new Qb Kyler Murray - says he has full command of the huddle and playbook and making adjustments already
BAL - Marquise Brown Wr rookie has passed his physical and is free to start practicing
NYG - HC has said Daniel Jones might start taking some snaps with the starter - he has been with the #2's so far consistently

Saints signed WR Michael Thomas to a five-year, $100 million extension through 2024.

The deal contains $61 million guaranteed and makes Thomas the league's highest-paid wideout at $20 million per year in new money. He's actually the highest-paid non-quarterback offensive player in NFL history right now, a number that will surely soon be surpassed by whoever is next in line, whether it's Julio Jones or whomever. Through three seasons, Thomas has averaged 107 catches for 1,262 yards and eight touchdowns as the former No. 47 overall pick of the 2016 draft. He turned 26 in March.

Hmm.... They only have $12.5mil in cap space according to over the cap

And Brees has no salary (contract ??) next year and counts $21mil against the cap. Don't ask me how that works.

They only have $37.5mil space next year. Someone has a lot of work to do

Brees has defered money from either this or last contract, that is why he has cap hit against Saints next year. One reason most thought they would draft for future to replace him

The time for serious concern grows nearer.

  • NFL Network's Jane Slater reports the Cowboys and holdout Ezekiel Elliott are not close to an extension.
"Close? Nope," a source told Slater. When asked if the sticking points were the length of the deal or the guarantees, the source responded, "Everything." For now, Elliott remains in Cabo away from the team a week into training camp. There doesn't appear to be an end in sight to this stare-down. Elliott is absolutely aiming to become the highest-paid back in the league.

Updates:
Hold out talks - August 6 is the day players need to be in camp to accrue a full season if they are under contract currently. However here are some key things on that date:
Trent Williams OT WAS - doesn't matter as he already has 4 years toward FA
Melvin Gordon Rb LAC - same issue
Yannick Ngakone DE JAC - this is an issue, if he is not back by the 6th he will only be a restricted FA not a UFA
Ezekiel Elliot Rb DAL - since he still has 2 years on his contract this date does not really matter - so holding out past this date may not be an issue
Jadeveon Clowney DE HOU - this is not an issue as he is a Tagged player and officially not under contract since he has not signed the tender.

CAR - is signing Tre Boston S to a one year deal
DAL - latest report is Dallas and Zeke are far apart in negotiations - Dallas simply can't pay him, they have to get Dak and Amari done

Per PFT:

Gordon and LAC are far apart, and his agent officially requested a trade last week - gonna be a long hold out folks, get you Ekeler and Jackson ready

PHI - Rb Miles Sanders left practice today with a foot injury, HC Pederson said they were getting it evaluated, but he should be okay.......
NYJ - retired OT Ryan Kalil has decided to unretire and play for the Jets
WAS - team is hoping the fines they are putting on him will force him back to camp
K - Phil Dawson has retired
DAL - Amari Cooper Wr says he hopes the contract Thomas signed will help his negotiations - yeah this is gonna cost.....

That contract also raises the bar for Julio - heading towards > 20M. Cooper is hard to assess because he just isn't at that elite level but probably thinks he is.

Pre-season has started with the HOF game - lets update some news:
KC - Tyreek Hill returned to practice from his bruised quad
ATL - OL Kaleb McGary's heart procedure went well according to Drs. No timetable on return

PHI - Eagles have signed Jonathan Cyprien S to a one year deal
IND - Andrew Luck is still missing practice with the calf injury - return in up in the air
PHI - Corey Clement coming back from last years knee issue is taking part in 7-7 drills
ATL - owner is talking making Julio Jones the top paid Wr in the league - Julio will now go over and hug Michael Thomas :D
SEA - L. J. Collier has an unusual ankle sprain, and will be out multiple weeks - per HC not high or low ankle sprain, but significant - HUH??
JAC - Lb Quincy Williams out 4-6 weeks with meniscus tear in knee

Daddy Jerry says that Zeke's hold out could drag on for months into the season. He should start a slow slide soon in fantasy drafts with the language coming from both sides.
