NFL 2019, Week 3 In or Out and other injury notes

  • Cam Newton (foot) wasn't spotted at practice again Thursday.
Reports indicate that Kyle Allen will start for the Panthers' Week 3 matchup against the Cardinals. The extent of Newton's foot injury is unknown, but this is shaping up as a potential multi-week absence. This won't necessarily be bad news for D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel considering only the Dolphins and Bears have had a lower percentage of catchable targets than the Panthers this season (PFF).

Jordan Reed remained sidelined at Thursday's practice.

  • LeSean McCoy (ankle) is expected to return to practice Thursday.
Meanwhile, Damien Williams (knee) won't practice again Thursday. Shady doesn't appear to be 100%, but he's tentatively expected to suit up Sunday against the Ravens. He'd instantly be in the high-end RB2 discussion if Williams is ultimately sidelined. Rookie RB Darwin Thompson would also likely see a good chunk of snaps as the Chiefs' RB2 if Williams is ruled out.

Tyler Kroft was forced from Thursday's practice with an ankle injury.

  • NFL Network's Mike Garafolo would consider it a "really good outcome" for the Eagles if either Alshon Jeffery (calf) or DeSean Jackson (groin) are ready by Week 5.
The Eagles are playing it coy with Alshon and D-Jax, calling both "day-to-day" coming off injuries in last week's loss to Atlanta. But the expectation is that neither will suit up Sunday against Detroit iand with a short week on tap after that (the Eagles visit Green Bay next Thursday night), both could be looking at multi-week absences. Zach Ertz and Nelson Agholor would figure to be the main beneficiaries in that scenario, though second-round rookie J.J. Arecega-Whiteside should also be in for more work.

  • Tyrell Williams (hip) practiced on Thursday.
He got in a limited session Wednesday and will probably be listed under the same designation Thursday. Williams is dealing with a hip pointer, though it shouldn't keep him from suiting up Sunday against the Vikings. Facing a tough road assignment against All-Pro cornerback Xavier Rhodes, the Gazelle could be in for a rude awakening in Week 3.

  • Tyreek Hill's (clavicle) right arm is no longer in a sling.
Per ESPN's Adam Teicher, Hill "(doesn't) look like a guy who is going to be out much longer." He was reportedly dribbling a basketball with both hands at the Chiefs' facility on Wednesday. Perhaps a Week 4 return isn't out of the question, but it should still be considered a long shot.

  • Speaking Thursday, Steelers OC Randy Fichtner criticized Donte Moncrief's pass catching so far this season.
"I had a coach a long time ago say you have to put the word receive into receiver," was Fichtner's brutal assessment. Moncrief was probably the worst receiver in football through the season's first two weeks. He has since been benched for James Washington. Especially with Ben Roethlisberger on the shelf, Moncrief is safely droppable.

  • Courtland Sutton (ribs) was held out of Thursday's practice.
Sutton wasn't listed on the Broncos' first injury report of the week, so he was injured either late Wednesday or early Thursday. NBC Denver's Mike Klis reports Sutton has "sore ribs." That would sound like an issue he could play through, but Friday's practice status will be key. Emmanuel Sanders has surprisingly emerged as the Broncos' top fantasy wideout, though Sutton is certainly WR4 viable.
