So who do you think are the front runners are for the MVP this season? Some of the usual suspect's are being named, but there are some darkhorses being named as well.

So who do you think are in the discussion?
 
Brees and Manning have a shot. A surprise to me and it's not a done deal yet but Farve has worked himself into the picture. I surely didn't see that coming.

For coach of year the honor should go to the defensive co-ordinator of the Saints but of course Sean will get it instead.
 
PTI mention Cedric Benson as someone in the discussion....I had not considered him till then, and I don't think he's a leader, but when you think about it, he should be in the conversation.

As far as Favre, I'd give it to AP first, he's the MVP of that team not Favre.
 
this is gonna be one of those threads where it all breaks down to symantecs. What is the definition of most valuable player. Is it the best player on the best team? Or is it the player who means the most to his team. I'd say Johnson means the most to his team. 1100 yds and 7 TD's through 8 games definitely puts him in my top 5.
 
At 6-2, after pre-season predictions placed them closer to 2-6, there must be a Denver Bronco in the running for MVP.

Trouble is....I can't find a Bronco that stands out.

Who gets the credit for Denver's remarkable season thus far?

means so much that they have a whole 2 wins?? To me valauble means helps them win....take CJ off the Titans and they still suck....put him on and they suck....being the best on a bad team doesn't make you a MVP to me.

MVP is more than just numbers IMO

Exactly my reason for bringing Farve of all people into this conversation. AP was great last year but the Vikes not so much. Enter one old man named Farve and presto, the Vikes are a serious contender. Anyway no argument from me and I'm not even going to be tooting Farve just yet but if the wins keep coming???
 
The term, Most Valuable Player, deems that the award goes to the player who is most responsible for their team's success, throughout all of the NFL. In my opinion, that player's value is not diminished by the team that he or she plays on, unless of course it affects their own play. But if a great player is on a winning team, or if that same great player is on a losing team, then his value should be the same, because he brings the same thing to the game. And if I were actually forced to pick a situation in which one a player was to be considered more valuable for being in one of the two situations, then when the player is on the bad team is when I would deem the player most valuable, whether that team is floating around .500 or whether his team is in last place.

I agree completely.

The award is "Most Valuable PLAYER"....Not "Most Valuable Winner". I'm also not sure that the award is exclusive to the success of a TEAM as much as it is the success of the sport and the spirit of the game in general.

Being a great player on a lousy team, to me, says more about the player's character and commitment to the game than a dude that racks up stats on a perennial winner.

Walter Peyton is at the top of my hero list and he played for a dreadful team for all but the last years of his career. Is he not MVP worthy?

Same with Barry Sanders.

How could you include these names on the list of "Greatest RBs Of All Time" yet deny their inclusion as a candidate for MVP because their team sucked?

I don't think CJ is my pick for MVP but he is certainly one that I considered. Ray Rice stands out to me as having the most impact on the sport thus far and it really doesn't matter if the Ravens win or not.
