RB Ryan Moats signed his one-year tender offer on Wednesday, so he will join Steve Slaton, Arian Foster and Jeremiah Johnson as backs on the current roster. The Texans are expected to add a running back in the draft. Moats will earn $1.226 million if he makes the team.

I'm assuming this year will be an open competition for the starting spot. If they go RB in the draft, they will likely cut someone before the season starts. Otherwise that will be a crowded backfield.

i'm curious to see how both johnson and slaton look in the preseason as they come back from IR with shoulder and neck injuries respectively . . . moats is decent and provides good hands in the passing game, but needs better OG play to produce . . . if the texans go rb with their 1st pick, either slaton is done or the team simply wants to be sure that position is covered . . . i believe they'd get better value in filling team needs if they draft DT & FS with their 1st 2 picks . . . so, if they wait until the 3rd for a RB, moats is probably safe while johnson and/or slaton might be done.
