James Wilder Jr. - FSU lands nation's top high school highlight reel

James Wilder Jr., blue-chip spawn of the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers workhorse and owner of what must be the most impressive highlight reel in the entire 2011 recruiting class, politely requested the attention of recruitniks today for a humble announcement regarding the future destination of his coveted versatility and harem of toga-clad, grape-feeding groupies: He's going to Florida State. Seminole fans are granted permission to flip way the heck out, for a period not to exceed 60 seconds. (We are still talking about a high school senior here.)

Georgia fans may be flipping out, too, though for a different reason after reports Tuesday that Wilder, Rivals' No. 3 overall prospect nationally and No. 1 running back, was planning to commit to the Bulldogs – an upset in itself, given the longstanding assumption that he'd be taking his 6-foot-2, 220-pound frame to Florida. Wilder should brace himself for Bulldog and Gator fans' vitriolic Facebook messages instead, unless/until he decommits from FSU in favor of one or both of the SEC schools at any point between now and signing day in February

FTR he's not y'alls until February and you can book it he'll have a lot of pressure to play elsewhere before then. Do any of you State fans know who recruited him for the Seminoles?

Wilder Jr. is an athlete and a student, being raised in a family who keeps a high priority on academics and family both on and off the field. The only reason Wilder Jr. announced his collegiate plans early is get the pressure off his back and end the seemingly endless influx of recruiter calls. He wants to focus on his senior year and remain in the present.

I don't see him changing his mind about schools. His reasons for selecting FSU were not purely athletic, but academic and environmental as well. IMO Bobby Bowden's brand and legacy of camaraderie football has yet to be syndicated in Georgia or Florida despite their stellar conference and team reputations for victories.

Eddie Gran and Lawrence Dawsey worked night and day to land this kid. They simply out-recruited UF for arguably the biggest prize in the state and maybe the country. And the kid grew up a Gator fan. While other schools were going to allow Wilder to play running back, Dawsey and Gran specifically sought Wilder to play running back. Is there any doubt that Wilder sensed the genuineness in Florida State's pitch?
