Chiefs | Weis to work closely with QB Cassel Sun Jul 18, 03:16 PM Kent Babb, from the Kansas City Star, reports Chiefs new offensive coordinator Charlie Weis should work closely with Matt Cassel in training camp. Babb feels that Cassel went through an adjustment period last year, and now there are no more excuses for the veteran quarterback - he needs to show improved play in 2010.
Our view: Weis knows how to run an offense, and the Chiefs are expecting him to help Matt Cassel reach the next level this year. They added more weapons around him in the passing game like rookie WR Dexter McCluster and rookie TE Tony Moeaki. We feel Cassel is going to improve his play in 2010, and can be relied on as a quality QB2 and fantasy backup.

Chiefs | RB Charles expected to be centerpiece of the offense Sun Jul 18, 03:08 PM Kent Babb, from the Kansas City Star, reports third-year RB Jamaal Charles should be the centerpiece of the Chiefs offense this season.
Our view: The Chiefs know Charles is one of their most dangerous weapons on offense, and they should be creative in finding ways to get him the football. Veteran Thomas Jones was added in the offseason to help share some of the RB duties and prevent Charles from wearing down over the course of the season.

Thomas Jones opened Chiefs training camp as the team's starting tailback, ahead of Jamaal Charles.

Charles sat out much of the offseason due to a shoulder scope, but was on the practice field Friday. We'd try to not read into this. Charles was voted the Chiefs' team MVP last season and is clearly the superior option in nearly every aspect. The coaching staff may just be "easing Charles in" after so many missed spring reps. He's certain to lead the backfield in touches.
