The deadline for NFL teams to promote practice squad players to the game day roster has been extended to 90 minutes before kickoff.
Teams usually have until 4 p.m. the day before a game to move a practice squad player onto the roster, but with the potential for players testing positive for COVID-19 the night before or the day of a game, the league and NFLPA decided to extend the window for practice squad activations. The change will create total chaos for fantasy managers as teams scramble to make last second moves when players test positive for the virus in the hours before kickoff. Anyone who can't monitor their starting lineup and waiver wire options on Sunday mornings will be at a massive disadvantage in 2020.

Duh, well they've always been at a disadvantage if they don't check in before kickoff but I do agree it will be of dire importance now.

NFL related - but NOT NFL news...
NCAA does NOT have the power to shut down the season for fall sports, especially football, that is a school by school and conference decision. However, the NCAA does have the power to cancel any conference championships. So IF the teams play, and still want to have a championship for NCAA, it could be without any conference championships. Stay tuned to see how this ends up....

NFL and NFLPA has updated the opt out rules.
Deadline for most players is still Tomorrow at 4pm ET.

However, after that, if a player falls under one of two conditions, they can still opt out. They are per PFT report:
According to the document outlining the final opt-out procedures, a copy of which PFT has obtained, a player may opt out after August 6 if he he receives a new diagnosis that he suffers from one of the “Higher Risk” factors. If that occurs, the player will have one week after receiving the new diagnosis to opt out.

Also, if a player has a family member die or become hospitalized due to COVID-19 after August 6, the player will be eligible at that point to opt out.
Now, players can still retire as another option, but won't get the monetary protection opting out gets.

A feel good story developing for the No Names...

  • Washington HC Ron Rivera said he was "pleasantly surprised" by Alex Smith's recovery from a catastrophic leg injury, and could compete for the team's starting quarterback spot.
Rivera told reporters he could "envision" the 36-year-old Smith entering the "conversation" for the starting job if he continues to show he's recovered from his 2018 leg break, which required 17 surgeries. "He’s looked really fluid, he really has, and it’s a tribute to who he is, it’s a tribute to his trainers and his doctors that have helped him get to where he is today," said Rivera, who has declined to name Dwayne Haskins as the Football Team's starter. With explosive play makers Terry McLaurin, Antonio Gibson, Derrius Guice, and Steve Sims, Jr., Smith could be at the helm of an offense with sneaky upside. The king of QB streamers could yet reclaim his crown.
