Who are some hot backup runningbacks that could land starting roles?

I was pretty impressed by what Fred Jackson did in his limited role this year. He's a RFA who could get a good offer from a team like Denver. With his receiving ability, he would be a guy who could get 75 percent of the action. Put up a really good game against the Pats in the final even with NE D knowing they were going to run the ball every play. Like him a lot in the right situation..........

Jackson is an interesting prospect.

Every time I see the guy play, I'm impressed. Not the bruiser that Lynch is, but much more fluid runner with more big play potential who can still power the ball when needed. Plus, an excellent receiver.

As you stated earlier, Denver has a lot of RBs on their roster, but Jackson is the type of guy who could carry the load there..............

I did say Denver had a lot of backs on the roster, but I never said they couldn't clean house. The Broncos need one consistent runner, a change of pace back, and a third guy lying in the weeds. They don't NEED 7 running backs. Jackson could be a fine lead back in Denver, especially with that passing game.

westy only had more than 16 carries six times this season. i think sproles could definitely take a role similar to his, with 10-15 carries, 5-7 passing looks, and some kick returns. a lot of teams could use a player like that.

Thats because the eagles dont run the ball

Your right, but at some point the wheels will come off the Westbrook bus, or they will get a new coach who will want to run the ball, and Buckhalter IS NOT a real 20 carry a game option.

His loss on the offense was felt when he was out. I believe they'll sign him long term and let Ward walk.

I agree, this is probably going to be the most likely senerio. But they haven't signed him long term yet. But after missing signifigant time last year a lot of folks felt he had to be productive and healthy this year to get that extention. Production was through the roof and he was healthy most of the year. Right until the end, now his missing time did have an obvious efferct but it was in a part of the season that wasn't as critical because the Giants were so far ahead of the curve. He appears to be healthy again going into this week, which is a good thing. But the healthy judgement may still be out with the jury. I think he still has to make his mark in the playoffs to get a long term contract extention.

Up until now he has been cheap and effective with health questions. If he gets an extention he will become one of the highest paid backs in the league. Will the Giants pay the toll? This year missing time at this time of the year, while it really showed, didn't have that much actual impact on the whole playoff picture. Will that be true next year during crunch time? If the Giants had lost a couple of more early games Jacobs missing time could have had a big negative impact. This is a bigger concern to the Giants as they are almost always in contention.

but, to answer the question of backups that could land starting roles . . . RB Leon Washington comes to mind . . . ;)

I'm not saying it will be well-spent money, but its hard to see them letting both he and Ward walk. Ward is almost 30, but he's pretty low mileage, so I understand them taking their time.

Bolded those who I think will get attention. Not a great list...so I think drafting Rbs will take on more importance this year.

Hmm, didn't know Sticky Ricky was a FA. I'm starting to warm up to the idea of a guy like Fred Jackson for a feature back.
