The Utah Utes were the nations only undefeated team last year. They whipped Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and garnered consideration as National Champions.

This team is a bit away from that one.

#19 Utah gave two fumbles and an interception to hapless Utah State and struggled to a 35-17 win Thursday night.

Utah RB Matt Asiata had a great opening night, going for 156 yards and 2 TDs on 36 carries and catching 2 passes for 17 yards.

Terrance Cain, taking over at QB threw for 286 yards and 2 scores with the interception, along with 22 yards on the ground.

David Reed caught 10 passes for 172 yards and a score on the night, but the turnovers, along with a suddenly pourous run defense kept Utah State in the game most of the night.

Utah State ran for 221 yards and 2 TDs on 34 carries, averaging a whopping 6.5 yards a carry against what was considered one of the tougher defenses in the country, including a 96 yard second quarter score.

The Utes have a few days to iron out the kinks before travelling to San Jose State in 9 days. Utah State takes its moral victory on the road to Texas A&M on Sept 19th.

Old Jackass...
If the Utes wanna make that ride to a BCS Bowl, they better get a handle on those turnovers....turnovers killed their chances to bet the spread....

Sounds like it was a pretty decent game though. Had to be frustrating on the Utah fans watching the team move the ball all night with drives stalling 'cause of turnovers and only beating in state rival by 18.
