Mike Pereira, the NFL's vice president of officiating, told the Daily News on Thursday that, considering it was the last minute of the Super Bowl, the replay assistant in the booth should have sent Warner's fumble down to the field for a review by referee Terry McAulay, if only to prevent the uproar that has resulted.
But Pereira, speaking from the Pro Bowl in Hawaii, said the call on the field was correct, the review by the replay assistant confirmed it and he is confident McAulay would not have reversed it. The Steelers won the game, 27-23.
