NFL News, Rumos, In/Out - start of mandatory mini-camps

Reports are out that Miami is letting Jonnu Smith and his agent seek out a trade - he wants better contract

NFLPA is pushing to have fields go to only grass - which should be interesting for all the domed stadiums...

Per Schefter at ESPN - Shemar Stewart the #1 pick of Cincinnati has left mandatory camp due to no contract and having issues with clauses the Bengals are requiring - this isn't a money thing per say, but the default of the entire contract vs. a certain period if there are off field issues.
Also, he can sit out all year and re enter the draft next year.

To me both sides are being childish

Nah. This is yet another example of the Bengals acting like a poverty franchise and trying to nickel/dime everything they can. Zero other rookies have these clauses, yet the Bengals are pushing for precedent. The players want to win, the coaches want to win, the fans are desperate for wins, but ownership continually shows they could care less if this teams wins as long as they make money. Pathetic. I'll be honest, if I were a 1st round prospect, I'd be PRAYING the Bengals don't select me, and that's sad coming from a fan.

Yeah, they seem to be on an island here. No other team seems to have this issue.

If they don't sign Hendrickson and the Stewart situation continues, their D will be even worse than expected. Great news for Burrow, Chase, Higgins and Brown owners for FF I guess.

I don't believe it will come to that. I am betting the Bengals back off on the verbage at some point. Key thing is its not $$$ or how much is guaranteed with Stewart, which has been an issue in the past.

As for Hendrickson, yes he led the league in Sacks, but he was absolutely awful against the run. He honestly doesn't deserve top $$$, but he does deserve a new deal with better money. I fear THIS could be a protracted hold out for the Bengals

Let him sit. He will be back by Week 4. If he isn't, have him go ask LeVeon Bell how sitting a season out worked out for him.

Then, he can see how long his contract offers are next year for a 31 year old pass rusher.

Hendrickson situation is completely different from the rookie. This is Trey and his agent wanting to upgrade the already upgraded deal they signed the year before. In this case, ownership should absolutely not cave.

Sure Pete. You spent the #6 overall pick on a back who is thunder and lightning in one package but you’re also gonna use 33 year old Mostert heavily too? I have my doubts.

Of course he’s not going to get 100 percent of the carries so Pete’s statement of “I’m not relying on one guy” is technically true. Pete is a despicable person but he isn’t a dummy. But he did call a slant pass into the middle of the defense on 2nd and goal from the 1 yard line with the super bowl on the line, so maybe he will use Mostert heavily 👍

Honestly, other than say Baltimore, almost all teams are going multiple backs. I guess Philly is another. Its not a bad thing, the issue is finding teams committed to the run so you can get good value from ether back.

Look at Detroit.

I agree somewhat and Mostert will used, just not as much as Pete is implying. IMO.

Jeanty is a true 3 down back, which is why he was taken that high. Atlanta gave Bijan 300 carries to 130 for Allgeir last year which may be the kind of split the Raiders have in mind.

On a side note, Allgeir is someone to try to acquire in dynasty leagues. He's really good and will be a free agent next year. He will get paid more than Atlanta will be willing to give.
