Just my supposition....
But I don't think Tomlin wants a rookie QB to run team in his very start, he seems like a more old fashioned coach.
I also don't think he wanted to scar his young QB with the absolutely pathetic offensive line they have.
To me the perfect scenario would have been for Trubisky to play decent and let defense win the games, but neither happened. Now he has to see what he really has.
