Illinois is considering a one-year contract extension for head football coach Ron Zook.

The university's board of trustees will meet July 23 in Chicago and will consider extending Zook's contract through the 2014 season. Zook is making just over $1.5 million per year and would not receive a raise if the extension is approved. University president Joseph White recommended the extension be approved.

Zook led the Illini to the Rose Bowl two seasons ago, but Illinois is coming off a 5-7 season.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.

Im not sure this is the best time to negotiate an extension for a guy with one great year and a bunch of mediocrity.
