After being sidelined because of a hamstring injury, rookie RB DeMarco Murray finally passed his physical and was allowed to practice with the Cowboys. Dallas has high hopes for DeMarco, noting that he had success in college as an every down back, receiver out of the back field, blocker on third downs, and a returner on special teams.

Murray is expected to compete with Tashard Choice for the back up role in Dallas behind Felix Jones, who has looked fantastic in the first two preseason games. Head coach Jason Garrett believes that the future of the Cowboys backfield will mimic the league's shift to a several back system.

“We're going to use more than one back — that's the nature of the league in this day and age,” Garrett said. “Those runners take a pounding. Ideally, you want to have a bell cow, a lead dog and have the other guys fit themselves in."
