Andy Levitre (Luh-Vee-Tree)

Offensive Guard - Oregon State

  • Height - 6'3"
  • Weight - 317
  • Projected 40 Time - 5.25

Draft Projection - 3rd - 4th Round

NFL Impact: Andy Levitre played right tackle in college for Oregon State last year. During his college career, he has played in ever offensive line position, except center, and including tight end. His ability to do this does not come from his athleticism. It comes from his intelligence. Levitre is not the fastest, strongest or the most agile offensive lineman in the draft, but he's one of the smartest. Because of this, the team that drafts him will be getting a leader. Levitre has the ability to be a very consistent guard in the NFL, and that will likely be his biggest struggle: the transition from tackle to guard. He's light on his feet, has great initial push, but he needs to work on his hand work because his arms are short and he has trouble finishing his blocks at times. Eventually Levitre will get the hang of the transition and he will become very influential to the line he plays for. Think of him as a second center on the line, that understands every position around him many times better than the players in those positions. Because of the great offensive lineman in the draft this year, Levitre will likely fall to the top 15 or 20 of the third round.

So where do you think Levitre will land? How successful will he be in the NFL?

The two teams that come to mind when I watch film of Levitre, are Chicago and Houston. They both have RBs that catch passes out of the backfield well, and Levirtre makes sure that he's in the right place at the right time. He's again not the most athletic guy, but he knows what needs to be done and understands it better than most players on the field. He's a team player that will sacrifice it all for the squad and is extremely selfless (as most O-lineman have to be).

He was once considered a solid 2nd rounder, and I honestly think that if a team gets him in round 2, they've made a great choice, but as of late most draft boards have him falling to the 3rd and 4th rounds. Not surprising though. Levitre is an excellent football player but he's smarter than he his talented. Because of that, a lot of teams will be going for athleticism. Looking at the draft order however, it's possible for him to fall to Houston at 15 or the Bears at 18 in the 2nd round, if he's lucky.
