Carolina Panthers place DeAngelo Williams on season-ending injured reserve - ESPN
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Things just keep getting worse for the woeful Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers (1-8) placed running back DeAngelo Williams on season-ending injured reserve on Wednesday with a mid-foot sprain the same day quarterback Jimmy Clausen sat out practice with a concussion.

Coach John Fox says Williams wouldn't have been able to return for two to three weeks and they "needed the roster spot." The Panthers promoted guard C.J. Davis from the practice squad with starting left guard Travelle Wharton (toe) sitting out practice.

Fox says it's likely rookie Tony Pike or Brian St. Pierre, a journeyman signed to the active roster Tuesday, would start at QB for the Panthers Sunday against Baltimore. Clausen was hurt late in last Sunday's 31-16 loss to Tampa Bay.

That team should just be blown up...

I have a feeling it will be. Fox is gone and Williams might be as well. It will be interesting to see what they draft with that first pick.

Why is he a crappy back?

Seriously, the kid still has talent. this is the first time he has had a major injury. still young, with low mileage. Not sure what will happen, but if he is cut loose, someone will get a very, very good back next year.

Well there is one down on my team...now all we need is for the Saints to put PT on IR and then my team is looking solid!! (sarcasm)

My first rd picks:
2007: Rudi Johnson
2008: Joseph addai
2009: steve slaton
2010: DeAngelo Williams

I've never finished worse than sixth, but never won a championship either cause of those d-bags.

Loved him going into 09 and avoided him like the plague in 2010. Their OL just fell apart and no passing game to keep the defense honest.

Hope he ends up in a better situation in 2011. The guy is fun to watch.......
