Sneaky backup to Kaepernick

I was watching NFL Network last night and they went far out of their way to point out that the star of Ohio State's pro day workouts was none other than former Heisman winning QB Troy Smith. Apparently many team scouts were glowing about how crisp he looked, and with his mobility added in, why couldn't the Niners look long at him as a perfect inexpensive backup to Colin Kaepernick?
