The Omaha Nighthawks announced the newest member of the squad, quarterback Jeff Garcia in front of a crowded ballroom in Harrah’s Casino in Council Bluffs on Thursday evening. The four time Pro-Bowler was graciously introduced by Omaha’s favorite running back and Pro Bowler, Ahman Green.

“I played high school football here, I played college football here, and now I’m playing professional football here,” stated Green. “We in Omaha could not ask for a better player than this guy I’m about to introduce. Omaha welcomes you, Jeff, and is so excited to start season with you in the helm.”

The crowd erupted in applause for the San Jose State graduate and former San Francisco 49ers star.

“I am thankful and blessed for this opportunity to play with the Omaha Nighthawks,” said Garcia. “I know how passionate fans are in Omaha and how important the game is to Nebraska and I can not wait to be a part of it.”

Nighthawks General Manager Rick Mueller expressed his elation at the addition of Garcia.

“I’ve kept my eyes on Jeff and have always been so impressed with him,” said Mueller. “We are truly lucky to have such a hard working and stand-up quarterback playing with us in Omaha.”

Head coach Jeff Jagodzinski presented Garcia with his trademark number 7 jersey. After a media photo opportunity, enthusiastic fans received autographs and took photos with Garcia, Green and the rest of the Nighthawks team. Sweatshirts, footballs, t-shirts and hats were adorned with the players’ signatures. When it was all over, most fans left with their new #7 autographed jerseys and huge smiles.

“I can not believe Jeff Garcia is playing in Omaha,“ exclaimed one thrilled local fan. “This is serious football. This is huge for Omaha. I know I won’t miss a game.”

Omaha Nighthawks training camp kicks off on Friday afternoon with a walk-thru at the Kroc Center. All practices throughout camp will be open to media and fans.

I think he'll do great in the UFL. He'll definitely increase the talent of the WR's around him.

Good to hear he is still playing. He has a lot of talent and if I was in the area I would pay to watch that team play.
