The Delusion that is Notre Dame

This was an interview done by Horn Sports with Mike Coffey of ND Nation. You really a great look into just how self important the Irish feel they are. Im on record as believing ND isnt relevant as they think they are, and they dont deserve to be a single school with conference type access to the system.

A Notre Dame Perspective on the Realignment Discussion

In the instant gratification, everything is disposable culture we live in now class and tradition is so devalued and absent that when it is noticed it is mistaken for arrogance, when the true arrogance is believing that those with higher standards should devolve to the lowest common denominator.

Without clicking the link (no time) it's been a long, long time since the Irish were as relevant as they'd like to believe and they have way to good of a sweetheart deal with the BCS.

Mike Coffey: Two things will always be attractive to Notre Dame when it comes to athletic affiliation: Mission and academics. The plethora of land-grant institutions in the Big 10 makes it a poor fit for the Fighting Irish — chances are they’d end up on the wrong end of a lot of everyone-to-two votes, since Northwestern is the only school in the group even close to resembling what ND is. This is why the ACC has long been viewed as a possible landing spot for ND, because schools like North Carolina, Duke, Georgia Tech, BC, and Virginia have a lot in common with ND off the playing field.

This may be one of the things working against the Big XII when it comes to ND’s involvement. They’re looking for high-profile academic schools, and other conferences like the ACC and Pac10 can bring more of that to the table. If ND gets involved with the Big XII and has any say in the expansion talks, look for them to push for schools with a high academic profile and decent athletic programs like GaTech.

Ok that is just funny.

Notre Dame is nothing like Northwestern - or any of the BigTen schools academically. Notre Dame has a great undergraduate program no doubt. What Notre Dame does not have is even a mediocre graduate program - which is what every BigTen school excels at.

In 2010 the BigTen schools did 7.1 Billion in research - thats about 3 billion more than the Ivy League schools.

To think that just because Notre Dame is a good undergraduate school puts them among the elite academic schools if actually rather funny.
