  • The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers could trade OLB Aaron Kampman before the Oct. 20 trade deadline. Kampman is in the final year of his contract. Even if there is no new collective bargaining agreement in place before the 2010 season, Kampman will be an unrestricted free agent in a market without a salary cap. For a player of Kampman's reputation, that would certainly be an enticing proposition. If Kampman is not signed to a contract extension before the end of the season, he could walk away and the Packers would get only a compensatory pick no higher than in the third round in return.

Let the bidding begin. I think it would be a good move given the defense they have went too.

  • -- Chargers Looking for Help Via Trades --

  • The San Diego Union Tribune reports the Chargers may be in the market to add some help before the Oct. 20 trading deadline. GM A.J. Smith would not comment yesterday, but he is spending time on the phone with other general managers. Smith has a history of adding high-profile help where his team needs it at the deadline. However, that help this year will almost certainly not come at defensive tackle. The Chargers moved last month to get depth there when they traded for Travis Johnson, who has been out since injuring his groin in the season opener. Johnson could start when he returns Oct. 19 against the Denver Broncos, and he will be counted on to play a large role going forward.

The San Diego Union Tribune reports when asked about comments Chargers GM A.J. Smith made in Wednesday's Union-Tribune, in which Smith said the Chargers had at times played “soft,” OLB Shawne Merriman said: “The only opinions that matter to me are the ones in this locker room.”
