Hi Mom!

The standard greeting has eroded so slowly, or maybe I stopped listening once
they stopped saying, "Hi Mom!"

I don't know how it slipped away so slowly that only at the end of the Rose Bowl 2012, the 98th Rose Bowl did I realize how long it had been.

Oregon won the first game called the Rose Bowl in 1902. It wouldn't be called the Rose Bowl again until 1923.
In between it was called something like East goes West for some sunshine and risky business with a big ol' fat wager on the outcome.

FatCats in Highhats they were called, or know'd as after enough cigars and single malts.

Getting back to the, "Hi Mom" I can remember back in the day
Was it that so far away, when the players would say, "Hi Mom" to the camera and get back to the game?

I can't remember the last time I heard a player say, "Hi Mom!"

Is that crazy or what?
but bless that Oregon Duck (number 2 was it) who remembered his mother on camera at the end of the Granddaddy of them all.
He said, "Hey Momma! Wassup?"

It was so touching I nearly cried.
