We shall see. The window of opportunity for some members of this football team is closing pretty fast. Im interested to see the kind of players they pick up in the draft.

  • Kampman will be 30, and is showing at least a short term decline in production
  • KGB will be 32 and not the player he was a couple years ago.
  • Montgomery on the D-Line is young, but average at best.
  • Woodson is producing, but will be 33 (window is clearly closing here)
  • Al Harris is clearly past his prime and can be burned on a regular basis.
While not particularly old, this is not a particularly young group, outside of a couple young linebackers and couple young safeties. The problem is, the age is creeping up on the positions that are the most critical, D-Line and Corner.

While it is true that they have older guys and will likely begin to see them loosing a step or two, I think they can accomplish a better pass rush. Like you were saying, their LBs are their most young and at this point, athletic players. If they can mix up their blitz packages, they can compensate for having vets at DE and DB.

so the team has three guys who will be 30 next year. how many other teams in the league have fewer than three guys in their low 30s (or past) that are important players? anyone? the window is not closing on that team. the window is closing on them getting by with just those two shutdown corners, so pretty much the point here was that green bay should probably draft a corner on day one and add some needed depth. moving on...

and dont try to slip driver into that list either. james jones and jordy nelson beg to differ preemptively.

currently driver, woodson, harris, and chad clifton are the only 30+ year olds on the entire roster lol.

I didn't say the window was closing, so not sure why you quote me to emphasize that. what I did mention is they are aging on some particularly important positions.

The defensive coaching staff from last year didn't just suddenly forget how to coach. Player ability had something to do with this.

The loss of KGB's past production as a pass rush threat hurt that team. Gotta replace that, which is hard to do, ask any team about that. The loss of this guy's presense puts a ton of extra pressure on Kampman. Who takes up this slack?

30 isn't a particularly old age, but it often is the age where players start declining in production. Not as much as the running back position, but it is not out of the normal for players.

If the team is lucky, they will get one "impact" player on defense through the draft, while filling other positions of need.

The News
Aaron Kampman will transition from defensive end to outside linebacker for the Packers under new defensive coordinator Dom Capers' 3-4 defense, reports Packers.com.

Our View
Kampman should be okay at the position as far as pass rushing, and should still challenge for double-digit sacks. What will likely be more difficult for him are the blitzes and coverages he will need to adapt to.

Feb 03, 2009 10:04 PM CSTHarrell to defensive end?

The News
Packers defensive lineman Justin Harrell may be moved from defensive tackle to defensive end as they transition from the 4-3 to the 3-4, reports the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View
Harrell has been a bust since being a first-round pick out of Tennessee in 2007. He has been injured most of the time, including two back surgeries this season that landed him on IR.
