Tibial plateau fracture - Wikipedia

Poached from another board

"So here’s my 5 minute read on JJ’s fracture: Imagine the top of your shin where your knee connects to your femur.

The key point of the article was that since it is one of the most important points of contact for weight bearing stability, recovery is often surgery with zero weight bearing for at least 3 months."

@jocktodoc: JJ Watt’s injury, a tibial plateau fracture, is a more severe trauma to the joint than an ACL. Instead of a ligament tearing the bone broke.

Still don't understand how this happens. Didn't seem like an unnatural motion injury and watching the replay there doesn't appear to have been any trauma like an inadvertent kick or something. All of which makes me wonder if this was a stress related injury due to excessive conditioning etc.
