According to a league source, Eagles general manager Tom Heckert wants "no part'' of the Lions assistant general manager position. Heckert, who has been rumored to be leaving the Eagles organization for the last couple of years, would want more influence in personnel matters and it's clear that GM Martin Mayhew will be running the show in Detroit.

This is good news for Eagles fans. Seriously - why would you want any part of the Lions organization if you already had a job in the NFL?

guaranteed money, challenge of fixing a franchise, many factors could come into play for people.

that said, the Lions are promoting management from within a bad franchise, so not sure who would really "want" this challenge.

There are a lot of pieces in place in Detroit. Millen is gone a good young core of players and multiple first rd. picks.

If it is possible they were much better then their 0-16 record indicates.

Detroit Lions = incurable disease :)

William Clay Ford, owner of the Lions, promoted Mayhew from asst GM to GM without interviewing anyone else. This tells me he is still running the show and is more inept than Matt Millen at running a franchise. How could he not even try to get someone who has experience at turning a franchise around? Instead he promotes a guy who was Millens' mentor for 8 year, learning from the worst GM in NFL history how to make a team the worst ever. Fire the mentor and promote the guy he trained to follow in his footsteps?

So much for getting a list of qualified candidates from the league and then picking the best one. Could Mayhew be a good hire? Who knows? But to not even bother to look at other people proves what a piece of garbage Ford really is. Now a rookie GM is in charge of an 0-16 team.

What is even worse is qoutes from the press conference announcing the promotions of Mayhew and Lewand (bean counter) to GM and president. Things like this really stood out: "We serve at the pleasure of Mr. Ford" . When asked about the draft: "Ultimately, it's Mr. Fords decision." This organization is the worst ever, and it will be a long, long, long time before they make it all the way up to 2nd worst.
