For what it's worth he tweeted out farewell Miami which is his offseason home about 2 hours ago.
Yup, some are taking it as he is heading to Pittsburgh - but the source ESPN quoted from a "friend" says he was saying he is done training for this year....

Who knows, we will know all by next tuesday.

One more update, IF he does not play at all, the Steelers Can once again FT him at roughly the same price as this year, as opposed to the transition tag. So him not playing at all has less value. Then again, if they tag him again, he can do this again..so not sure where that would help.

another new twist, Now multiple sites are saying something in the Collective Bargaining agreement will keep Pittsburgh from being able to place FT on him again next year, and that even if he does not play, the team would be forced to act like 3rd year tag was placed. Again rumors flying he won't show up at all this year.

So the guy sits all season and then comes back next season will he have lost anything from his game? I think so.

CBA rules for Bell per PFT:
The CBA provision that potentially prevents the Steelers from re-tagging running back Le'Veon Bellat $14.54 million if he fails to show up in 2018 carries a more clear limitation regarding the transition tag for 2019.

Article 10, Section 15(a) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement provides as follows: “If any Franchise Player does not play in the NFL in a League Year, his Prior Team shall have the right to designate such player as a Franchise Player or a Transition Player the following League Year, if such designation is otherwise available to the Team, except that the applicable Tender must be made and any 120% Tender shall be measured from the Player’s Prior Year Salary.” (Emphasis added.)

In other words, if Bell doesn’t report in 2018 (and thus makes zero dollars and zero cents), the application of the transition tender would guarantee a 20-percent raise over Bell’s 2017 salary. That’s $14.54 million, the amount of Bell’s franchise tender in 2018.

If he were to report:
In contrast, if Bell reports by next Tuesday, his transition tender for 2019 (due to his diminished earnings for 2018) would be in the range of $9 million to $10 million, the expected standard amount for the running back transition tender. So it would become significantly more expensive for the Steelers to apply the transition tender to Bell in 2019, if he doesn’t show up in 2018.

So I don't expect to see Mr. Bell this season

Bell was spotted and photographed playing basketball at a gym in Pittsburgh Tuesday night. At least he's getting closer:

So, per PFT an NFL representative has been recorded as saying that IF Bell does not report this year, he CANNOT be tagged as a 2nd FT tag, but would have to be FTed like it was his third tag. So IF Pittsburgh wants to keep him, it will be by transition tag to get value in picks, or let him walk FA and try to get compensatory picks.

He'll never be the same if he leaves Pittsburgh.
I think that will depend on where he lands.

and you can book it now, he won't be back in Pittsburgh. That ship has sailed. He will be a FA, as they can't afford to FT him a 3rd time, and NFL has said it will count as 3rd time.
